Better pic of the display. For some reason can not get it straight
Thanks Rx
So what are the limitations? ie can music continue to play while iphone5 maps give you navigation prompts? What happens when a call comes in while music is playing?
Thanks for any real world info

Yep, music can be heard when you are using the maps of the GPS.
It does the same thing that the iPhone do when a call is being receive, it left everything to take the call, hope this help

For the limitation I can just mention the problem with the lighting cable for use it on the IPhone 5, but as you have read already it is almost being corrected.

tonytalksalot is infamous around these parts
You need a double din kit like this..

Should fit pretty much any double din receiver.

I just ordered AppRadio 2 - the Crutchfield site is not up to date. It is a standard double DIN unit.

SPA-DA100 is the AppRadio2 ($211 on Amazon after $120 rebate)
If using iPhone 5, also need:
- CD-IH202, Pioneer cable kit $60
- Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter $50
- Apple Lightning to USB Cable $20
- Parking Brake Micro Bypass Chip $20
- Upgrade AppRadio2 firmware to the Feb 2013 version to support iPhone5, can be done via USB.
Then you may need to add another shelf if you are getting rid of your CD changers...There is an upper shelf and a lower shelf. $50
Might also need a Porsche Bezel - not sure how much that is.

my situation is kind of complicated. the previous owner put in an alpine nav system and im sure at the time it was great but now a days is just really out dated.

so i actually have an appradio in my mk5 vw right now and i was going to put it in the 996 when i sell the vw but wasnt sure if it would fit since crutchfield didnt list it.

so what should i look into purchasing if i wanted to retrofit that into my 996. im thinking i need to find an oem shelf to move my HVAC setup to where the screen is currently? there is no sound going to the nav system so i dont think i can just put it where that screen is fitted unless i take out the oem headunit?

oh and im using an iphone 4s.

to be honest i wasnt even planning on using the appradio i was just going to buy this

Just do a custom install of a Nexus 7, add it to your data plan and stream all your music from the cloud. It'll blow the s**t out of any aftermarket system with its capabilities and its graphics.
