Question about testing for a slipping clutch

I got out onto the highway to do the highway clutch test.

Got into 6th gear
Dropped down to 62
Stepped on the gas

I found it very sluggish and delayed to get going. But once the rpms started moving up my speed picked up at the same time.

I did this multiple times with the same result.

There was no delay speeding up once the rpms started moving up. But there was a definite delay till the rpms actually increased.

Is this good or bad?

Thanks in advance.

sounds more like your lugging the engine than slipping the clutch.

Thanks that's what I thought.

Not sure how not to lug the engine during this test though as rpms were quite low at 62 in 6th gear.

My understanding is you need to start at 62 mph in 6th for this test.

At 62 in 6th on a stock car it's going take while to build enough to really slip your clutch, well that is until your at full boost. I would try a couple of 3rd and 4th gear wot pulls and you find out very quick if your clutch is slipping. Good luck

For future check,,simple test to see if clutch is slipping >
Drive the car and put it in 4th gear at around 3,000RPM and push the pedal to the metal and hold it down to around 5,000RPM ..AND watch the Tach to see if the RPMS are revving up very fast And at the same time you are not speeding up,MPH > If so, then you clutch is slipping...

Thanks everyone,

I definitely get pretty instantaneous pickup in 4th gear. I was under the impression I had to do this test in 6th gear.

Doesn't sound like my clutch is slipping.

This clutch test wants to be one in a 1:1 gear and 4th comes closest. Also you want to have the vehicle's speed at the start of the test so the engine can develop max. torque.

This will stress the clutch's ability to resist slipping.

If you do not detect any signs of clutch slippage and the clutch take up is smooth with no grabbing and there is no release bearing noise stop worrying about the clutch. At least for now.
