Intercooler upgrade comparison

Any transport aircraft with a gross takeoff weight > 255,000lbs is classified as "heavy". Yes, the Antonov 124 is in excess of that by a wide margin.

Wow, Volga dnepr is a client of mine. Those planes are beasts. All of their pilots are Russian as far as I know.

The Russian drivers are a different breed for sure. I think the 124 has a crew of like 5 guys up front. Old school....

For those interested in the in's and outs of intercooler core efficiency and intercooler tank designs find yourself a copy of A. Graham Bell's book, Forced Induction and Tuning. There is an extremely good chapter on intercooler science.
Guarantee you will learn a lot and will be able to identify a good IC design as well as what isn't so good.

Good book for sure.
So Porsche built a turbocharged car with a top speed of over 190mph but the intercoolers essentially stop working at 180mph? They must have forgot to tunnel test. Sounds like more "horse"**** to me.

Going to attempt to keep the upper duct on my car if I can, 4.5inch core going in. Looking to section that top duct, what's the best method for cutting that puppy? Remove the clips and do it in halves or do it clipped together? Section just below the second clip counting from the bottom? I've got a spare I can practice on but hitting it right the first time would rock! Doing the passenger side first and will install temp probes too.

Cut and stick it inside. Granted he pics are on a 997tt. Good luck

Exactly what I'm looking to do, thank you! I think I like the plastic clips of the 997 better than the metal on the 996 and expect I'll be lengthening the reach with zip ties too. As tempted as I am to go without a top duct I think I've convinced myself I don't want to have to pull it apart to install them later on if I'm unhappy lol

i glassed mine like 02turbo996 did in his thread. no need for pretty stuff just laid some hair in glass and slathered it around the cut. did a 1/2" from the center to keep the lines close. also trimmed the lower duct so the 4.5" fit tight in the frames.

Ya, was considering glassing this when the fit is right. Question mark is where to cut and how much to remove but I've got a pretty good idea now. Once the two pieces slide into one another it shouldn't be hard to adjust. Trying not to modify the frame although a body tab is touching the end tank and will have to be tweaked.

page 2 post 28 always makes me laugh. i knew right then i liked this guy. after chasing him on the inter web for a bit i made contact and he sent me all the pdf files to build my own. i was even lucky enough to find a set of the original 5 sets he made from a guy who never used them. 200$ later they were mine! he never asked for a dime. i email these drawings to anybody that wants them with the same caveat. build them for you don't make them to sell and profit from.
