:: ECS Tuning :: Brake Upgrade Kit | Front & Rear

You love to shake things up with your 996 Turbo, running it hard enough to fully appreciate both its power and its glued-to-the-pavement handling. Now you can add to your driving pleasure with an equally powerful set of brakes.

The ECS Porsche 996 Turbo Brake Upgrade Kit assembles carefully chosen components, selected for their appearance as well as their superior braking prowess. This premium brake kit is designed to tame inertia with well-modulated grace and absolute authority; a performance demanded by a car of this caliber.

I see this kit is using the larger rear 997tt calipers. I don't know if you guys have run this set up but you will get a pretty soft and mushy pedal using the stock 996tt brake master cylinder due to the fact that the rear calipers are moving almost 50% more fluid than the smaller 996tt units. I would say the 997tt brake master is a must if you want a firm brake pedal.

We have run this setup on our 996 Turbo, and found that the brake pedal did not lose as much feel as we had expected. The larger master cylinder will provide a slightly firmer pedal, however we did run tests with both master cylinders and the 27mm master cylinder came up with about a 6% lower brake torque overall than the stock 25.4mm master cylinder, and the 27mm master cylinder generated about 11.5% lower hydraulic pressure as well. That said, either master cylinder will function fine with this setup.

Very interesting info. What means did you use to measure the brake torque and hydraulic pressure loss? Just curious as I have run this set up with both the 996tt and 997tt master. Also, how did you connect the 997tt master to the 996tt PSM module?

Line pressures were measured at both front and rear calipers with each master cylinder. Brake torque calculations were made with a program designed for that purpose. Running the 997 master cylinder requires an adapter or a custom line to attach to the PSM module. I certainly agree that you'll get a stiffer pedal with the added volume of the 27mm master cylinder, but we didn't find that the increase in pedal travel with the stock master cylinder was big enough to make it a necessity.

  • Porsche 996 GT3 six-piston calipers replace stock four-piston calipers for bigger bite when you need it most.
  • Larger 997TT rear calipers increase piston diameters from 30/28 to 34/34mm for better balance.
  • Both front and rear direct fit calipers are Porsche-made; bolting directly to the knuckles without the need for intermediate brackets. Hardware included.
  • Painted bright Porsche factory Guards Red, all calipers display handsomely behind open faced alloy wheels.
  • Hawk HPS pads improve bite cold and hot, with reduced pad wear. Their unique ferro-carbon friction material is rotor-friendly, and goes about its business with professional, unobtrusive authority.
  • German made Sebro single-piece 350mm front brake rotors, and OEM 350mm rear rotors increase total swept area. Their larger diameter moves the calipers outward for more braking leverage. Rotors are vented and cross-drilled for fast heat dissipation; added mass sinks heat away from pads, and resists deformation.
  • Kits come with all mounting hardware, including caliper bolts, retaining clips, stainless steel rotor screws, and pad wear sensors.
  • Bleed the system with the included Ate Super Blue DOT4 brake fluid, rated for higher wet and dry performance than DOT3.

Very nice, great price for everything and best of all no thinking about this or that part, its all there!
