7,500 mile Oil-Change
My dealer is telling me my car needs an oil-change at 7,500 miles (or 1-year, whichever comes first) at a cost of $250.
Does my car need an oil-change at 7,500 miles (or 1-year) or should I wait for the 15,000 mile service as specified in the manual?
Just curious as nothing mentions a 7,500 mile service so I'm wondering if it's just the usual dealer Cash-Grab, or if I would be hurting my engine by driving on the same oil for too long.
Thanks,
KJ

You can save a bit of $$ if you do it yourself. It is very easy.
Cost of oil....$70.00 +/-
Cost of O-rings....$5.00
Cost of filter....$20.00
Gratification for doing it oneself.....PRICELESS!!
Here are the drain points if you decide to do so.........

I love chaning my oil. I do it every 2500-3000 miles. The best part of changing your own oil is you can let it drain as long as you want to get every last drop of old oil out. One of my dads friends would drain his old oil out, put in the cheap oil, run if for a day, then drain and change the filter and put in good stuff.
Never let one of those qucik oil change places do your oil, in any car. I knew a guy who use to work for jiffy lube and he said that when the line got long the managers would tell them to just change the oil and not bother with the filter cause a filter can be wiped with a towel to look new.

The factory reccomends 15k oil changes and 30k filter changes. Doing it in 1/2 those intervals would be a good idea. $250 is too much for $40 in oil, $15 in filter and seals and 1/2 hour labor.

My dealer charges 187 for an oil change. I usually don't do them but every 15k. For some reason I actually did a 7,500 interval this time. I once drove a Porsche for a couple of years without changing the oil when I was young and dumb. Amazing cars.

I just got the reman engine. I changed at 500 miles and new filter. I plan to change both 1 time a year, which for me will work out to 5 or 6K miles. Cost wise $60 dollars in material and $20 to my mechanic for the labor. The dealers around here want $190 or so I believe. Kind of a rip off, I believe I would go to the dealer if they were $100 or so, but I don't get the $100 premium. ???

You guys are kidding, right? If you have any respect for your vehicle you will ignore Porsches reccomended interval. VW,Audi, MBZ etc. say the same crap, ever hear of the MBZ recall for coking, know anyone with a late model VW/Audi turbo?
If you think your oil capable of service for that interval, step up to the plate and buy the good stuff...I hear you can go 25,000 on Amway oil......
If you give any creedence to a mechanics opinion, you would change between 3 and 5,000 miles. Filter and oil.

Peace Jayster.

P.S. oil labor for a change should be 1 hour at the prevailing shop rate, plus materials. A reasonable price to have someone else change your oil/filter should be 150 +/- 25. Depending on the region and your choice of oil.

You should be just as concerned with time as mileage. Over time condensation and burnt fuel byproducts, acid and other "joo-joo" gets in the oil and sits on your valuable internals. I do think +/- 7500 or 1 yeat is probably ok. No need to overkill when you have so many quarts of oil in the car to begin with. After all this is a 100k plus car, don't let old oil wear it out prematurely. Wear it out the old fashioned way. By driving the **** out of it for many, many years!
