996TT X50 Vs. Supercharged E46 M3

Taken from another forum. Nice race/video

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off...I want to sincerely thank Ben for bringing the car out tonight to play. I've been wanting to run him for a while now...and it was great of him to take the time to meet up with me. He's a great guy..and hopefully he'll register and post his comments here on the forum.

Both of us would have been perfectly happy regardless of the outcome. We shared rides in each others cars afterwards and enjoyed ourselves. No animosity here between us whatsoever.

You can see how it went down from the vid, but to summarize; when his boost would kick in...he would surge on me...but since his redline is at 6,500, he would have to shift before I would.

You can see in the video how he surges...then shifts at redline (drops back)...then surges again. Who knows how long that would have went on had we kept going.

Enjoy the vid.

wow similar weight and power, but more torque to the 996TT X50, yet M3 "won" handily.

Perhaps the torque curve helps vs late power of turbo? what is 1/4 mile and trap speed of Supercharged M3 vs 996TT X50?

416 rwhp, lighter weight at 3285, the shift points.. and of course the rolling start negating 996TT's heavy AWD.. that explains it.

Nice video... now let's get a 996TT EVO650 to race an SC M3 to event he score, modded to modded

I don't think the M3 won. From what the M3 driver said on the M3Forum, it was a tie.

First race: 60-130, tie.

2nd race: 45-120 - tie.

I have three words for you as to why it was so close. Redline, redline, redline."

yeah but if you read the thread, even the 996TT driver who eventually posted said that M3 driver was being modest. The lead would've been a lot more as the speeds get higher...

Either way, I'd still rather have a stock 996Turbo vs a modded E46 M3.

Hehe, that was a nice race.

The M3 would easily start pulling if speeds went up.

Keep in mind i own a SC M3 and 996TT. I would choose the M3 anyday.

Also wait for the big power to arrive, turbo kits are being developed now. This is just the beggining with a bolt on SC upgrade.

No need, just a chip + exhaust will give that X50 a ~70whp advantage.

Its simply not fair to compare ANY modded car to a stock one . I raced a gsx-r 1000 bike.... cant beat me on the highway.
In two weeks I will have my evo8 back with 700 to the wheels- it will be faster then my TT
(relatively speaking).
Im not going to put up videos all over mitsu boards how I spanked my own TT.
Whats the point ?

If you are referring to"gnk2727", I don't think he is the porsche driver.

The SC'd M3 is fast, but like what Markski said, the race doesn't mean a thing. Have the SC M3 compete against a modded Turbo then we'll have a race!

Aren't the SC kits on an M3 already like $25K ? Saw it EVo Sport. That is just crazy. The compression ratio is so high on those engine that to do any kind've FI work you need (lower compression) rods & pistons off the bat. Kind've nutty. At that point a nice SC'ed Carrera doesn't sound bad (Only $12K). Can't imagine how much a turbo/twin turbo will cost.

The M3 may have won "handily" but with that kind of boost on the M3 engine, it will have to be rebuilt every 15K-20K miles.

The 996TT X50 on the other hand will provide a minimum of 100K of trouble free service before any major overhauls.

The Porsche is a classier car that has greater appeal.

The M3 owner spent a fortune on mods and raised the cost of his car up into used 996TT territory. All things being equal, I'd take the 996TT.

Porsche. There is no substitute.
