2nd 996 Turbo done right
#1
I bought my first 996 Turbo in 2008. I started modding it without first setting goals or entrusting a tuner. I had the basic mods and I wasn't that happy with the car after spending $10k in extras. I sold the car in 2010.
In 2012 i bought a 2009 GTR and it was an amazing car for sure. The GTR novelty wore off in 6 months and I sold it because I missed a 6speed manual. I spent 3-4 months looking at Z06s, 964s and 996TTs. I loved my neighbor's RWB 993 but I couldn't justify flying over Nakai for an additional $25k on top of the car to build the car. I really wanted some HP on the cheap.
I found a 996TT on Craigslist that had 30k miles, 2nd owner and was super clean. The car was only 7 miles from my house. I drove the car and spoke to the owner who had all the documents on the car since new. I picked up the car for $40k.
I drove the car home and stripped the rear seats, wiper/motor, sound deading and everything in the trunk including carpeted panels. I chose Markski at 911 Tuning to tell me what we needed to do to the car to make it a fun weekend car with 600whp. I wanted to do the majority of the work in my small 2 car garage. Markski agreed to help me via text message along the way. He answered every text message and phone call. I bugged the sh*t out of him every day for weeks!
Here is the list of mods that I did in the garage in the last month:
-JVC headunit
-Painted console and dash metallic black
-Painted bumperettes
-997 GT3 SSK
-Bilstien PSS10
-911 Tuning software
-K24/20 billet turbos with clipped hot side wheels (911 Tuning calls them K24/911GT specII)
-911 Tuning BVs
-911 Tuning intercoolers
-EB Werks exhaust, no mufflers or cats
-AEM meth kit
-plugs and 997 coil packs
-boost leak test at 20lbs
Mods that I couldn't accomplish in my garage:
-Clutch masters stage 3
-911 Tuning Intake
-injectors
Impressions:
I have only drove the car once on 93 without meth and on the initial tune from Markski. I can't punch the car or drive it hard since I need to break in the clutch. I did a few roll-on pulls in the freeway. The car is VERY strong. It pulls all the way to redline very well and the boost lag is not noticeable to me. It pulls harder than my GTR for sure and builds boost just as quick. Markski still needs to review my data logs and fine tune my ECU. I cannot wait to try the meth with the final tune.
Overall, 911 Tuning and Markski met my expectations AND I spent much less than I expected. I will post my impressions of the meth runs and race gas runs.

Thank you. I didn't want silver as my last turbo was silver but I couldn't pass up this car considering the condition. The only mods done to the car were a radar detector and new tires. It still had the original brake pads. The owner didn't know what he really had. He kept calling the car a Carrera. I asked him if it had the X50 package, 2nd gear pop out, ECU upgrade etc and he had no clue what I was saying. Worked out for me

Ok but no racing unless you give me 10 buses and the move. I have a friend that has a Veyron here in Houston. We should strap some cameras to your car and make some late night runs.
