yeah, accumulator. common as you now. i don't know about your ims rattle though. if that's the "new normal"? call me abnormal and thx..bitcoin is fkd anyway. "banks" don't like it.

But seriously... I am still just keeping an eye on this thing . My car never had the nuts-and-bolts-in-a-metal-can sound but when I picked the car up tonight, it is not there.

but try ( if you haven't? ) switching to a 5/40 or heavier oil. that will lessen that rattle. it's getting very warm as you know in CA of late... solar x'class flares, be damned and consequently, 0/40 is gettin mighty thin.

so did you pick it up yet? i actually feel i have a stake now in your successful emergence from this hopefully minor setback. bitcoin losses notwithstanding.

 

Well... the weird sound is completely gone. The clutch seems to be where I want and remember it to be. I still hear some of the chatter we all so dearly love but I can not say it is louder than anything else on the road.. So in a few days, I will make another video. BTW I tried to make a HD version in stereo.. but the quality did not turn out to be THAT good. Assume that youtube is taking care of business .. ehh bandwidth.

 

That's good news! Hope that was just it! Maybe it was the clutch not engaging or the power steering pump making the noise?

 

again, it ( sounds lol ) like you may have/had(?) two separate issues. but the clutch accumulator should not have made a "noise" per se, but it would definitely affect the cluctch action in the way you described. funny thing is, you could take 60/70% of these into a shop and the techs would say the accumulator is "bad" and they wouldn't even be lying. lol..

again, given the approach of planet x and all ... LOL. it's getting warmer here and you'll appreciate my advice on a slightly heavier oil. less noise for awhile anyway. Good luck w it!

 

isn;t that just that wierd "whistle" of that "valve""? i had that, it wasn't loud enough over the normal idle to capture on an iphone ( when i had it happen ) and it went away when you engage the clutch(?). i had that ps pump res switched out.

man, it would be nice to have a 96t that was so UNused that none of the things that fail .. have yet?

The clutch accumulator does not make that noise when it goes bad. I would bet that bitcoin the sound is still there. The engine has to be at operating temp, get under there like you did in the video you took. If you have a listen to a few 996tt exhaust videos on youtube you can hear it too.

Some are louder than others but most will have it. If you can't hear it then you are lucky your ears are not that sensitive, haha!

 

I will make a video in a few days .. After getting home last night and checked it. Definitely there is some 996TT chatter which disappears when you run the revs up to over 1200 or so . So that is not what worried me. Wait for the video :-)
