Just got extremely lucky!

I was just showing my younger brother how my car runs after it's recent upgrades. I was getting off the 580 (in Pleasanton, NorCal) to reverse direction and the PSM was getting in the way of my fun. I mashed the throttle in 2nd but almost immediately felt the PSM interrupt my enthusiasm. I shut it off, and then began accelerating on the on ramp of the opposite side when I saw the dreaded red and blue flashing lights in my rear view.
Apparently the officer was sitting at the light on the off ramp and saw my attempt at going sideways that was metered in by PSM. I pulled off to the side right away and put my hands on the wheel. When he approached the window I apologized profusely and explained that I was just showing off for my brother. He gave me a quick safety warning and as I pulled out my license he just told me to be careful...and left!
I thought for sure I was going to get a 2 pointer for this one and let's face it, I deserve one after all the recent -ahem- testing I've been doing on the freeways. If you are nice and honest with the law, sometimes they can be pretty cool in return.

Not to one-up you, but I had similar experience last weekend. I just got my car running with my new K24 /20 billets, no meth yet. This new SS Camaro wanted to play. I was in the fast lane and he was in the lane to the right of me. We ran twice and I put about 10 on him. After the last run I slowed down and looked into my mirror to see a cop swerving in and out if traffic to catch us. I exited the freeway and the cop pulled him over. This time it paid to be 10 cars faster...karma will catch up to the though I'm sure if it.

Good for you.

My advice? Hit the casino or at least buy some lottery tickets.

Oh, and your brother owes you a cold one.

I was thinking the same thing about both your comments, but I owe my brother the cold one. If he hadn't been in the car I would have no excuse for lighting up the tires on a freeway overpass. Well, except for the truth; I love the sound of WOT and spinning tires are an unavoidable consequence.
That's another thing that surprised me. The sound of my EBWerks full 3" x-over at WOT is pretty loud and I was always fearful of a ticket. Cop didn't even mention it. All in all a great day.

And about the race with the Camaro...you've got me beat with that story. That had to be a great feeling watching him take the bullet.

You got lucky!

I was accelerating up a twisty on ramp near home that goes slightly up hill and crests as it merges the freeway. Shortly after the crest I saw a Smokey hiding under an overpass. I jammed on the binders impulsively not knowing my speed. As I passed him, I immediately saw the red and blues flashing and pulled over. He was nice for writing me at 5 mph over, 70 in a 65. He said he clocked me at 97 mph. I felt pretty lucky.

Once I was clocked at 135 mph on a bike in almost exactly the same spot. Very lucky to off with a warning.

I got busted for 120 in a 50 on my worked 1100 Suzuki. The short story is I did not see the cop so they came to my location and arrested me for eluding and speeding my lawyer got the eluding dropped and speed lowered for about 1000 plus fine=rarely brake the speed limit now and realize I could have killed myself or worse someone else.

I've had similar luck in the past, but I think the reason I got off may be that the officer never actually caught my speed with their radar gun. They just hear or see you do something, but if they don't hit you with a radar gun or pace you, it's difficult for them to write you a ticket. Instead they give you a nice lecture and if you are polite and let them exercise their ego a bit, you will probably be ok.

Ironically, I had just installed a Valentine1 and was pleased that I was able to speed for brief intervals with a new sense of security. The ticket I dodged was the dreaded "exhibition of speed" and "reckless driving" combo for lighting up the tires and pitching the car sideways...right in front of a cop I know, not the smartest thing to do, but he was not in my sight line. These violations are not something you want on your record and are far worse than a normal speeding ticket from an insurance company's perspective.

When I had my 968 (also a yellow cabrio with a black rag), I took a intersection corner sideways late one night with a buddy in the car just for, you know, a little demonstration.

Quarter mile down the road, we pull in to the parking lot we were headed and a cop pulls in right behind me, no flashing lights or anything. As I'm walking to the entrance of the place, I hear "HEY [MY FIRST NAME]..., C'MERE A SEC" through his PA system. I'm like, wow - not only did he see me but he's already rung me up?!

He was very cool and just told me look, you and the car both seem capable enough, but just take it easy, okay? A smile, nod, and a respectful thank you were all it took to confirm we had an "understanding."

They're not all bad, just treat 'em right.
