Another chatter thread ...
I recently noticed that there's a chatter (on top of the usual IMS chatter) ... it so happens that it disappears when I push the clutch in.
It made me think ... would this issue be clutch related?
I am on K16 Billets with injectors on STOCK clutch ... and it still feels good ... no slipping or anything out of the ordinary.
Thoughts anyone?

Not really ... just goes away when when the clutch is pushed in.
Actually, the car's idle is fluctuating at at the moment. When it does under ... say.. 600 or so, I notice that chatter ... brief chatter, say a second or so, but a different frequency compared to the usual ...

Putting on the A/C should raise the idle up which puts the engine above the speed that the every 120 degree compression stroke does not slow the crank down. Do you know why your car's idle is dipping to 600 rpm?

it's the reverse for me, putting the AC on lowers the idle a bit and the chattering is a bit more pronounced.
My idle is hunting a bit ... probably another vac leak or something rather.
At least that's what I'm led to believe.

It is the slightly uneven idle causing the clutch disc to rattle on the input shaft splines with some contribution from the transmission hardware on the input shaft in the transmission.
I hear this with my 03 Turbo and have heard it from other cars as well.
Only happens when the engine/drive train is fully up to temp and is often my technique when pulling up to a stop is to at the right time slip the shifter into neutral and bring the car to a stop using the brake concurrent with releasing the clutch pedal.
Often then I'll notice the clatter. When the car was new to me at first the noise caught me off guard -- even at over 267K miles the 5-speed in my Boxster it doesn't make this noise -- but then I remembered my experiences with other manual transmission equipped cars and pushed in the clutch. Noise gone. Upon releasing the clutch the noise remained gone. I don't try every time but when I do upon occasion I can bring the noise back by revving the engine a bit.
As long as there are no other signs of clutch/pressure plate/flywheel problems and the noise remains below a certain level you have nothing to worry about.
I can't say at what level I would be concerned but if the noise got much louder or changed in any noticeable way...

Only clutch related in that pushing in the clutch pedal makes the rattle go away.

Perhaps time for a new clutch?

I have an old(er) car graphic tune with a raised 7200 rev limiter. Whenever the maf has failed owing to the voltage spike if/when I peg the limiter. My idle will hunt from 750 to 1000. Until I replace the maf. I have no leaks, near as I /we can tell.

if your idle is hunting then your transmission (if full warmed up) can make a little chatter
check your plugs, check for boost leaks, maf ect.......you can reduce your transmission noise with a 75W -140 transmission oil a little
