Caltrans Rock kissed my hood
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...altrans-30213/
Monday morning rolling onto highway on ramp, saw caltrans road crew on right side of road mowing grass, decided to hop over to far lane (second lane) to avoid any possible problems, ford f150 1/2 fender length ahead of me on my right when an object flew over the truck and smack my hood twice before going over the top.
Off at next exit and came back to the road crew, they agreed it was their fault and gave me claim info. Had to get two estimates to submit claim, wasted half a day, submitted it via email to caltrans claim office.
All looked fine for me, I was anxious to get it repaired, didn't think anyone was to blame. I called back the next day to find out about claim and was told that it would take the state 6-8 weeks to pay off on claim. Now I'm not happy... Don't want to wait that long.. Now I have to turn it in to my insurance company instead and let them deal with it. Just shows you how lousy the democratic republic state of California operates.
.....Just my venting, thanks for all who read this.

Don't feel like shelling that out instead of my deductible and it will get reimbursed later....
Wasn't feeling the 6-8 weeks of non repair on hood

you got too close to a truck. i don't see how it's caltran's fault actually.
they are paying for it so you are real lucky. i doubt they will pay you $3500 with a new hood. the dent should be easily repaired with a new paint job. contact L&M mobile touch up and they will fix it in a day for far less. plus, you'll have an original hood. damage looks around $1k to me, plus new clear bra ($500-700).

i hear ya.. but a new hood? what adjuster would ok that for a rock chip. that's the problem. no one ever fixes our cars back to "new" and esp when they are as old as they are. it must've been above the clear bra! or else those things prove useless once again... anyway. do what ya gotta do. hassle either way.

If you were searching for a better example of a first-world problem, you wouldn't be able to find one

And yeah that is a horrible California problem that you would have to wait, OH MY what is this world coming to
On another note, in the time it took me to type this post 20 people died of starvation.

Almost happened to me recently, luckily I was far enough back and saw the rock flying towards me. I swerved out of the way and just missed it. It was a big one too.

Shoot - under this logic, I figure the state of Texas owes me 4 windshields and 1 bent rim.
I think it's unbelievably lucky that they are even willing to acknowledge any fault at all, much less pay for the damage.
I do agree, however, that California sucks.

OK, picture didn't do it justice. Two sizeable dents in the hood. Metal was stretched and one was over the xbrace underneath so they can't heat the metal and bring it back up to shape. The bigger dent was ~1.5 inches long and about a half inch deep right over the brace underneath.
The rock was tossed from the mower over the other vehicle and struck my hood, not a bouncing rock otherwise it would have hit the truck to my right.
It it was a dent, I would have repaired it and claimed it against the state and wait, but with the current budget issues minimum of 6-8 weeks for payment or more I was not in the mood for waiting.

That makes me feel better about the excessive tickets and traffic here!
OP, venting is understandable. It really sucks but yes it's a great deal that they at least will do it. Hang in there
