I do have this clatter at start for a second or two but only with the engine cold. Even after replacing the check valve at the bottom of the tank, even after going from Mobil 0w40 to TDT 5W40 I still got this strange behavior. But only when cold or car was left for a day or two without starting....

I would bet you way more then a nickel that the Screech is not a result of any oil issue!

it sounds kinda like the sound of a wet serp belt that last a sec after the engine comp gets wet. only its metal apologies for this diversion. i mentioned it only relative to oil and that the lower viscosity/heat seems to be causal. it's a horrible sound. really. but it has only happened as i described while ambient temps are 100+ and it's instantly quieted once oil is pumping. i've never had it happen while using my usual summer fill of 5-40. i'm sure i would have noticed.

it's probably best i don't know what causes it

Ahhh yeah!!!!! The old wait till it fixes itself or blows up technique. I have used that one myself a time or two.

lol..the obverse of paying someone to tear my engine apart to look for the cause of a screech that happens once or twice a year and only when it's over 100 degrees outside..

think i'll go with.. "it never happened"

I have a similar sounding noise that is mechanical that lasts about a second after I start it cold. In my case I think it is the starter gear retracting and making a "whurrrring" kinda sound. I have it too and think mine's "normal".
