Oil change ... More power now.
The car felt low on power mainly at low and mid. Maby I was making it up. It's hard to tell some times ... I sware this use to have more power... Changed the oil Friday from a 10w30 to 15w40 royal purple for both after 3000 mi before a Saturday auto cross . What the hell. This thing has twice the low and mid range now.. Must be the variable valve timing wasn't working right and maby the clearance in the turbo bearings is a little large.

Plus,, when I did dyno testing on oils back when I had my bike dyno,, I saw slight gains going from higher viscosity oil to lower viscosity oil.. 15w50 to 5w30 made the most difference, 3 to 4 hp.

Correlation is NOT causation...let's say there really is a change in performance....you think to yourself...."Self, what did I last do?" And you answer "changed the oil"...therefore you conclude "It's the oil"...sorry you have a theory about what changed it, but nothing conclusive. My guess is something else changed.

Changed the oil in my 318is today, oh boy. Afterward I went to the dyno, only to find that my ~95hp engine was putting out an astonishing 83hp. I changed the oil again, just to be sure, and would you believe it....???? It made 84hp!

You should wax the oil filter then report back. :-).

You guys are brutal!!
It must be something else like raineycd eluded to.
Did you disconnect your battery?
This is the only thing I can think of that might cause something like that to happen. How was the weather compared to the day you did the oil change?
IE if it was hot and very humid (as it has been in Toronto) and then you did the oil change on a cooler and less humid day also makes a BIG difference in performance.
Just some thoughts.
Thanks
