E85 / Proefi 996TT
#46
Randy, can't wait to see this setup out and kicking ***!
I'll clarify on some of the things brought up with my experience.
All of my major numbers were done on a proprietary HKS Fcon vPro setup wired in by Justin Nenni (Tuning Concepts) that I ran from a few months after I first got my 840rwhp (on stock DME tuned by EPL) setup. We continued with it on the built motor and made 1040rwhp on E85 with it. When I had a head gasket let go at 1150rwhp on C85 there was a joint decision between Justin, Matt (my brother) and I that we need a more intrusive system that would give us throttle control, etc.
Move forward to the ProEFI. We had just purchased one for Matt's 2JZ Datsun build and we said well hell lets go ahead and go this route. I purchased the 996TT Harness, 6x HO Coils and a bunch of other goodies. This is where things did go south because during my thought process of what we really needed vs what I thought we really needed I made some purchases. The result was a wiring nightmare, lots of harness modifications, etc. There were problems at the beginning that were just finding out the 01-02 and 03-05 Turbos have a tiny bit difference on wiring. Then we ran into problems with our stock harness where we cut out to much. We chased problems left and right with it. Finally we let it sit for about a month or two and I decided to buy a stock engine wiring harness. We decided if we were going to keep the ProEFI I was going to need to buy a new harness for that as well and follow their guide and just use stock sensors and their igniters. I then had the thought of saying screw it and go back to my fCon setup since it worked at 1040rwhp. Also thought about doing the Motec M600 or M800 with a CDI setup, but just was not cost effective in the end.
I ended up going with the Syvecs because of removal of the stock ECU. If I continued with the ProEFI like I said I needed a new harness (we butchered most of it), need other pieces for it and I would eventually have to buy another ProEFI 128 to give my brother. So I was going to have to spend a nice chunk of change regardless.
Jason is a very good guy to deal with and has been very helpful. Chris Delgado (the guy here in Houston) is also a very very good tuner and also a good resource to have. I have no major problem with the ProEFI because we do plan on still using it on our 2JZ Datsun. So I am 100% sure you are going to enjoy the ProEFI setup.
My build slowed down a tiny bit this last few weeks as we are finishing up all the stuff we needed to do to be ready for the motor to go back in. We got a "new" car Saturday and have been planning stuff for it. Going to run X275 in our "new to us" 95 Mustang GT with a 363ci SBF with a GT47-88 and since the car was built in the 2005/2006 there is a lot of updating needed. That car is using a Big Stuff 3 and talk about a standalone that's easy to tune... LOL! 4 tables!
Look forward to seeing the build process again! Sorry for the long post but I really have never 100% clarified why I decided to change so far in to our project.

I would be happy with the ProEfi setup!!!
Chris Delgado made mention of the wiring harness debacle but he didn't go
into detail. It's crazy how one thing can change the course of these type of
projects. Things were going peachy f'n keen for the first few weeks and I
even commented to Fred that things were too smooth! It's sorta like meetin
a girl who seems perfect and you just can't believe how perfect she is and
then you wake up one morning to a strange smell in the kitchen and she's
boiling your dog because you didn't answer her call on the first ring
All the sudden everything started going wrong but we sorted each piece
and moved forward. We're pretty much down to the wire and he's gonna
fire it up later today or in the morning. I'll keep you posted and we may
pm you with questions if you don't mind.

I deff was not discounting your build, but pointing out you would humiliate a veyron with this set up.
#48
most likely never encounter but it serves as sorta a benchmark!
I think a real car guy would opt for an Agera R anyways! The koenigsegg
is faster on all accounts, looks better and it's almost half the price. Its a
real steal at 1.4m
#50
No you actually retain obd port since the stock ecu stays in the car and proEFI keeps it happy.
#51
dependent on the ecu for the immobilizer and ABS. Strictly speaking,
it's a piggyback. The ecu can still control variocam but you have the option
to switch it over. At our power levels there's no reason to mess with cams.
As for inspections, I live in Alabama. If you can get a tag and a set of
headlights (at least one headlight) on it, you are legal.
#52
You guys are so lucky. You would get bad nightmares if I would tell you what the TUV in Germany is making for a circus out of its position.
Nice project Randy. Good luck.

the Gemballa look is THE best in my opinion.
We are a socialist country now. The entire country will be adopting
the laws in California. lol Hollywood can't afford to make movies in
California anymore so they go to Canada! It's just a matter of time
before the government steps in and starts shutting down the tuning
shops. I'm a businessman with international business and I know lots
of other guys just like me and we know it's going to get worse. Alabama
has always been 20 years behind the times but it'll happen here too. In 10
years all of our cars will be illegal and there will be enforcement.
And I'll be in Belize

Just finished reading the rest of the thread and looks like you have a solid build coming along. This is the second build thread I've read through and as awesome as they are, they are making my bank account cringe.

Ahh ok. Is this a DD? I'm somewhat reluctant to remove the spare and tool kit since my car is a DD. My car is also much less powerful.
Was the "wiring nightmare" because it was an 02? You mentioned a difference between the 01-02 and 03-05. If so, is it pretty much plug and play for a 03-05?
I hope you are wrong with all of my heart! haha I just moved to CA and to get a car registered on base here, I have to get a smog inspection even though I'm a FL resident with FL plates (on my other car and bike). The bike doesn't have to be tested because it's not over 6 years old, but my car does. FL doesn't do those inspections either, so I never had to deal with it. My other car has no cat, an aftermarket turbo, and an upgraded fuel system. Don't think it will pass a test here.....
I wish I was wrong. In another decade the epa will have the full force of
the government to back them. Everything will be handled at a federal
level to circumvent the pesky sovereignty of the states. The insurance
companies have a dog in this fight and they will side with the government.
It's all about the enforcement part of the equation. It's coming and it's
going to be oppressive. Count on it.

Check out Powell, Tim941NYC, joetwint or blackhorseturbo. My car is
a boxter compared to those guys
I'm in the "under 1000 hp club" but I might be the president lol.
And this build is making my bank account cringe and I must say, my wife aint dancing
on the roof right about now either.

[QUOTE=spiderman;3900287]Ahh ok. Is this a DD? I'm somewhat reluctant to remove the spare and tool kit since my car is a DD. My car is also much less powerful.
My car is a daily driver. Your car doesn't have to be a high hp car to remove weight!
Shedding weight netted me 2 records in this car. I ran a 5.87 60-130 with 16 billets!
That's faster then a lot of big turbo setups. I put the smack down on a 700+ hp zr1
with k16 turbochargers lol! This car ran a 5.35 60-130 with alpha 28s! That's faster
then 98% of cars on this forum! WEIGHT REDUCTION!
You don't need a spare or tool kit. You got a cell phone.
Tool kit / spare removal , 24 lb odyssey battery, OZ alleggerita rims , rwd conversion
and a decent aftermarket exhaust will peel off 200 lbs and 60 lbs of that will be rotating
mass. That alone will transform your car. It makes the car feels like a real Porsche.
Porsche is turning into nissan or even worse, Toyota. To each his own but....GTR
or Supra ugh!

add a 3rd seprate 044 and stage it with ProEfi to come on at 4500-5000 rpm when in high boost.

Will the 2 044s / factory unit in tank, handle 780-830 whp at 1.8 ?
or is the 3rd 044 / staged a matter of insurance?
