Question Delete Secondary Air Pump (SAI) system & CELs?

Been getting CEL's relating to the SAI for some time now. Since the CEL's were intermittent and easily turned off (via Brockway), I ignored the problem but scheduling unrelated maintenance so this is the time to address it. Can't remember the exact CELs but the codes always occur in pairs, always at low load cruising. Should to be one of 2 CEL pairs below.

P0491 & P0492
P1411 & P0410

- diverters upgraded
- air pump turns on at cold start (albeit bit loud)

With out going into why, guessing it's a leak somewhere. Trouble shooting this issue is a PITA and always risk of next weak link going bad.

Is there a way to Delete the system altogether?

Mechanically: Did a search and member says the CEL system can be 'bypassed' by simply plugging the solenoid hose as detailed in below link. Can anyone verify that this works (to abate any/all SAI CELs or possible another failed part of the SAI system can trigger the CEL)?

By DME/ECU:
Is it with in the capacity of re-mote flash tunes to delete CELs relating to SAI (as with 2nd o2 sensor related CELs)?
- If so which parts can be removed and where/how to block off airways? Have seen kits offered for other make/model cars (plates/resistors etc.).

Lastly, how detrimental is the SAI function with regards to emissions testing (assuming fully stock car).

Thanks!

For those looking for part numbers related to SAI: below link covers all of them and exploded diagram attached.

yes you can delete the pump and have the CEL code turned off by your tuner.

GSR Porsche secondary air pump block off plates
http://store.gospecracing.com/boxste...entline-1.aspx

Link below discusses blanking plates from the factory and changing DME to ROW (Rest-of-World) to bypass the secondary air pump and after Catalytic O2 Oxygen sensors for NA 996/986. Does this apply to TT cars and is the procedure/parts the same?

I'd be interested in this. Keep some good pictures while you do it, and a DIy would be awesome. Best of luck.

This kinda of stuff always interests me! I know it can be coded out to not have a cel, and have it pass readiness but will it pass state inspection (smog). Just recently in MA there inspection machine software can detect if you have coded your ecu to pass readiness, resulting with a trip to the MAC center. The MAC center is a one on one with a inspector looking at every aspect of your car trying to find a reason they should impound it.

mine is deleted. it can be coded out of the ecu by a stock ECU master like Tony @ EPL. cleans up the engine bay and the vacuum line situation there, saves weight.

sounds like a plan since I'm dropping the engine soon to do the coolant pipes, and will be re-tuning in the Spring anyway...

It's only a matter of time before govt finds a way to stop coding out of different emissions related sensors, or at least knowing that something has been coded out.

This is my plan later this month. That's why I created a new thread talking about it. But still haven't seen any good answers other than "my shop did it". I know it's relatively simple, and done it on other cars, but I'd just like to get all the vacuum lines right the first time, as I'm sure they're a bear to access later once the motor is back in!

I'm shocked with all the guys who track their car & all the guys that drop the motor on these cars for builds and coolant pipes, that this isn't a well documented walkthrough.

what documentation are you looking for? unbolt the damn thing and clean up the unused vac lines and block the hole off.
