Jean Pierre,

I followed your re-crimping procedure. Pleased with the result.
So far, no leaks. I also cleaned the debris from the radiators.

My passenger side radiator had a small leak, 51k miles, 2002 turbo. But I re-crimped both the left and right radiators.

I'm guessing that way the side radiators are mounted causes them to fail (cantilevered mounting, lots of vibration, the crimps may eventually loosen on the plastic tanks.) The center radiators don't seem to have the same frequency of failure.

Good job Charley!!! Hope it will last like mine. Over 7000 Kms since I did this small repair attempt and still no leak or no smell!!! Sad part, winter is coming and the car will be in storage soon…Agree with you, center radiator seems to hold a bit longer...

Where the leak was, the plastic cover was not equally press down on the radiator. We use a special tool to bend the clips properly at the leaking area and did a pressure test at 10 pounds in his garage and no more leak….Once home I did the same thing on both faces of the radiator all around both covers and after the radiator reinstallation, got the PST2 out and did, for the first time, the "Special function" called "996 turbo cooling" that is used to bleed the TT. This function delay the fan operation and the temperature of the system is aloud to go up to 210 F ! This function takes about 20 minutes to do with the engine running and help you to fill the system properly. I did it twice to be sure and there was no sign of leaks anymore…. I did a good inspection of all three radiators and there is no sign of corrosion on any of them and I think it was worth trying to save it…. Will keep you updated on that one
Glad it worked for you! Is that your "special tool" used to bend the clips? It looks like every day slip joint pliers in your pic. If that isn't the tool, what does the tool look like? I'm of the opinion that these $500+ radiators are made pretty sloppily and obviously have poor quality control from the manufacturer. At that price point they should last the life of the car or at a minimum over 20 years. If mine start to seep, I'd like to remove them and re pinch the clip tabs.

It is a simple double action combination players. I bought this tool in 1975 from the Snap-on salesman. I cannot found it in the online catalog ??? May be discontinued… The double action reduce the pressure needed to compress something…Any good pliers with proper width and good wrist can do the job….You will see, theses tabs are not too difficult to bend but there are many!

Thanks, thinking water pump pliers will work fine as they will pinch harder.
