My next track car?
#46
Sent it to a crappy shop in Houston (MTI) who was a CF sponsor and highly regarded at the time, they butchered my build, left of thousands of dollars in parts, and made the clearances all wrong.
Brought it back to Ga and had it rebuilt and poof again. And in between those, it blew turbos left and right. I started the build before I got into road racing, hence the turbo's. Had the best of everything in that motor.
Finally got sick of it and got a TT, best decision I've made.
Here is mine. Note my car in these videos is about 3150 lbs and 514 whp so still in the 6.1/1 weight to power range. And is getting to 163-167 (pending aero setup) on the back straight at Road Atlanta.
The GT-R claimed to the TT director they were only running 600 whp. The Corvette claimed like 556 whp and 3475 + lbs. How you get a C6Z full race car (races ST as well) to 3475 lbs is beyond me, and the video suggests otherwise. There is no WAY AT ALL a lower ratio Z06 pulls on me at all let alone 2 bus lengths.
Saw his submitted dyno sheet, the original was black and white, you could barely read anything, and it only had HP listed. They updated it with the torque and it was 556/500. One of my good track buds has a 618 whp Z06 that does not pull me this hard, have him on video too.
Been a lot of lying in the SE for a while, we'll see who shows up at Nationals with legit numbers. I'm looking forward to that. The record I broke was from an illegal car.

Sounds like my E30 M3. When I finally got the suspension/braking setup to where I wanted it to be I had a different shop build my motor. Then, lost 2 motors in 2 consecutive races at nearly $20k a motor. My third was built like a turd and the car never ran the same. I sold the car for virtually nothing. That was the end of racing for me after 5 years.

As I said earlier, you're asking for too much. If you want a fast, reasonably reliable car, you're best bet is always going to be a real racecar. OR, a slow street car. Pick your poison. S2000s, Miatas are great track cars that can be run for very cheap (well, it's all relative) and rarely break. But you won't get that big speed surge that is so thrilling. A used real racecar can be bought for fairly cheap (compared to a street version of that car), but will have to be stored and trailered, and the truck and trailer are an issue. A formula car will offer the best speed/dollar experience in the world, and can be very cheap to run, but has to be stored, trailered and trucked. A late-model Porsche/Corvette/Viper/BMW/GTR can be fun and don't have to be trailered, but the weight and power of these cars puts really big demands on all the hardware and tends to break things much more often. [shrug] Not sure there's a way to beat the old racer's adage: Fast, cheap, reliable: pick two. (with a 996TT you've only picked one! )

So this is a bit confusing. I should buy a Z06 (C5 or C6) and then swap out the motor for a built one from an earlier car? This sounds like a bit much. When I was racing down here (Florida) there was one guy who had a C5 Z06 and I don't think that car ever finished a race. I looked at Vette's for a long time but I got scared away due to motor issues.
I tracked a C5 Z06 back when they were sold and the tranny overheated, then the diff so we had to park it after just a few laps. That's why I was asking. Again, I don't want a headache and I could never find the "right" Vette to track.
This is an expensive addiction! Maybe I should have taken up krockodile!

Your Turbo is probably getting close to being trouble free, for a car you can drive to the track and want to drive on the street a modified turbo is pretty sweet! Trying to talk my wife into a low mile 997TT for her DD so I can take mine down that road even more.

Wow, no wonder why you have a bad taste in your mouth. That's why I build my own stuff. I don't trust anyone....but ya, mti was supposed to be top notch. I did have slogging dickey assemble the short block. I did mine when I liked drag racing so it was made for a 500 shot and why I have a Callie's dragons layer crank. Lol. Bit overkill now for a track rat. 4000$ crank. Oh well.

Man, I just don't get that. The 2002+ ls6 was the best motor gm made. Those things take such a beating and just keep on going. If you wanted a fun track toy, I'd just get one and leave the motor stock. Add Pfc brake pads, gut it, add a good seat (corvette seats suck) And I guess coolers if you needed it, but you can build cooler set ups yourself for a fraction of what some shops charge. R comp tires and it would be fun. They are so easy to drive on the edge. Then add some mods as you go. I had LG build me some custom coil overs for mine and that made the car sooooo much better to. But bottom line is, you can get a awesome track weapon, street car for way under 25k. You can pick one up for 15k. But, I. Biased ;-)
But your TT is a beast, with what you have on it, it will run with/outrun most of the new cars coming out today. A TT like mine started off, with Tune (K24), exhaust, coilovers, pads, rear sway and MPSC I would gladly put up against anything new coming out, any day. Times I ran in 2007 after having my car only a year full weight, no aero, with the mods listed still beat the new gen Corvettes, GT-R's Vipers on similar tires (and most guys on faster ones). And I'm a much better driver now, I almost want to get a second one to DE. It's become one of the best bangs for buck out there.
You just need to have it gone over with a fine tooth comb, which it sounds like you have done already. At 12-13 years old, it needs some updating in a few areas, as will the C5Z.

haha Those self imposed "Not going to track the new car" rules never last
