100 + + i'd guess, the after fire photos show the care wrapped around
that little tree and god knows what else they hit before ending up like that.
the rwd cgt is a handful like anything else with that power.

Never speak ill of the dead... but I am sorry, a capable driver? Speed doesn't bite someone like him? Really? Driving down the boulevard at speed which mashes Carrera GT into pile of junk which on impact explodes is reckless and totally irresponsible. And 9 times out of 10 such crashes are down to driver error. Considering he was bombing it down a bloody boulevard straight, at nothing less than warp speed, probably proves this point. As far as I am concerned, he was also responsible for taking his passenger's life. If he was in his twenties or he would lose it on a deserted rural road, I would kind of understand. As you say, easier said than done, we all fail at self control every now and again but it is regardless our sole responsibility to chose where and when we gun it! At the age of 40, in the city area whereby someone's child could run onto the road in front of his car is most certainly not where nor when. Sorry to be blunt but he was a ******. Nevertheless, RIP, a sad state of affairs.
My post said keep it on the track. Speed does not kill in capable hands. Lapse of judgment, and I have gotten away with many of these both on and off the track, and the factors we cannot control kills and there are way too many of these on public roads. No need to point out the obvious now.
Brings back memories of Cory and Ben's accident and that happened on the track . . . Not speed, but a factor beyond Ben's control . . .

My cousin and good friend went this same way back in 97 in the dsm ages. my cousin had a 600 whp talon and let me friend drive it, they were hauling a$$ , went around a corner way to fast , lost control hit the only tree on a huge field. car burst into flames, bodys were not recognizable ..
the dude driving drove a lifted jeep , no clue about fast cars.

They were both local guys and both had kids. We have all sped in our cars and all gotten away with stuff we shouldn't have. I can't think of how many of us went out with a buddy when we first picked up our cars. that's what this was. It could have happened to anyone. Regardless of the circumstances and reasoning though...They were both really wonderful people. If anything can be taken from this it is that you just never know. Be careful and listen to the angel on your shoulder. Our prayers and thoughts are with their families.

Carbon fibre disintegrates upon impact with immovable objects. Know this first hand. My curiosity was peaked regarding 360/430s frequently splitting when I switched to Challenge Stradales and various F GTs in 2008. These cars split easier than one may realize. I also recall a CGT splitting completely in half (front and rear very far apart) injuring the driver, but passenger walked away.
I doubt anyone on here knows the amount of force to cause a CGT to bend, as opposed to completely severing, and to what extent the damage was caused by fire or explosion. They are investigating whether Roger was cut off by another car and the spin marks mentioned on here were apparently from smaller tires.
Sorry if I came across as a butt or defensive about Roger. He was a friend and good person. The racing community is like family. We all get this and no reason to be critical right now. I am sure the lawyers will do a good job at that later, especially given the Rudl settlement in that CGT incident.
Say a prayer for the 8 year-old that unsuccessfully attempted to extract his father from a burning car, the 15 year-old daughter present, and the close friends that attempted to render assistance. Lots of tragedies here and Roger had a wife and two young children.
I came here to see whether Arling had any info. I will go back into forum hibernation now. Be safe, keep the shinny side up and keep the speed on the track. Ciao.
