TX2K14 Roll Race Nationals
#31
I made a post on 12/16 and announced that I would sell 3 additional Roll Race Nationals spots at $500 each ($1,500 total) and that every penny of that $1,500 would go to payout 1st and 2nd place in each class. Furthermore I announced that I would personally match that $1,500 and increase the payouts to $3,000. Shortly after my announcement William Freeburn (pizzamangtr) announced he would throw in $300 taking the pot to $3,300. Today, sponsor, roll racer and long time friend Bob Helms announced he would also throw in $1,500 taking the total pot to $4,800!!!!! Payouts as of 12/18 will be as follows:
$1,100 to 1st place in UNLIMITED
$500 to 2nd place in UNLIMITED
$1,100 to 1st place in SUPER SPORT
$500 to 2nd place in SUPER SPORT
$1,100 to 1st place in SPORT
$500 to 2nd place in SPORT
Thanks to everyone's support of this event and don't forget to register

Our second roll test went perfectly well!
Our first test was a simple affair with just Bob's UGR TT Lambo making a few solo passes to ensure this concept of running a roll race on a superspeedway held water. The biggest problem was getting Bob to STOP making passes!
Our second test was today and we gathered up a few cars and headed to TWS to play at lunchtime.
So today we had:
Mullet's TT Lambo
Bob's TT Lambo
Todd's TT 996
Tony's TT Viper
Anna's TT Supra
Peter's new M5
We talked through a testing format, went out on the course and put our cones up for a start and a finish and put some camera folks on station and then donned our helmets.
First pass we all paired up and simply made a nice easy "half-pass" and coasted into the banking. For the second pass we did the same thing, except we switched lanes to see it from that perspective. Sadly, Todd's 996 has a small steering leak that was causing a bit of smoke and rather than push a bad situation he slid it back on the trailer.
Third pass the gloves came off and it got real...in a hurry. The Lambo's ran each other a few times and the Supra and M5 and then the Supra and Viper ran. After a handful of passes, we were wrapping up and....of course....Bob was wanting "just one more pass". So after his last pass we all gathered in the paddock to discuss what we'd learned and we'll incorporate that into the rules and the procedures for the event.
Probably the biggest thing that came up was the "TO VHT OR NOT TO VHT". Some folks want ultimate stick while others are wanting to simply run on nice clean pavement to mimic what you'd find on the street. Peter has not ruled on this, so if you feel strongly one way or the other, please post up.
We did find out that pacing is a breeze. You've got a TON of time to get your speed exact and as long as nobody jumps early (and, of course...nobody did...*cough*PETER*cough* heh ) then it is a fair fight.
As expected, once you've eased into the banking a time or two it is incredibly simple and not intimidating. That first time is interesting though!
Also, as expected, we can run pairs of cars very quickly. Launching a pair every minute should be simple and we can actually run closer than that if needed.
Lastly, as expected, everyone was all grinning like idiots. I was in the paddock when the Lambos ran one time and the sound...unf! Sounded so awesome.
We will get good quality pics of the test soon and add them here as well as some video.

Here is a little vid of mine from Yesterday.
After testing today I found the pacing distance to be sufficient with more than enough time to line up with your opponent and the straightway surface to be good. I hooked pretty well on DRs. But you MUST get on the brakes immediately after your run (after a brief coast to allow the car to settle) then roll into the banked turn at around 100-110mph. Looking forward to it. Thanks Peter, I'm confident this will be a fun and safe event!

thought I'd share here too!
Below is hotel information for Tuesday March 11, 2014 and Wednesday March 12, 2014…these hotels are 8.5 miles from Texas World Speedway. I have 100 rooms reserved at Holiday Inn and 29 rooms at Country Inn & Suites. The hotels are right next to one another. In the maps attached, Holiday Inn has the pin dropped on it and Country Inn is just north of it. See below for booking information. This list will be released on the www.tx2k.com forum on Saturday 12/21/13:
Holiday Inn
2500 Earl Rudder Freeway
College Station, TX 77840
979-485-8300
Group Name: TX2K Enterprises
Rate: $127/night
MUST BOOK BY 2/2/14 to get this rate under our block
Country Inn & Suites
1010 Southwest Parkway East
College Station, TX 77840
979-693-7777
Group Name: TX2K

Lastly, I'm working on a room block at a "nicer" hotel as well. Pricing will be more expensive and the hotel will be a few miles further away. I will release that information as soon as i have it available.

As the title states, watch the video in HD. This video shows you the hot pit area where cars will start. It shows you the pacing area on the banking. You can clearly see that the Lambo hits 177 (almost) on the VBOX during the run...and then you can see the Lambo enter the turn north of 100. If this video doesn't get you excited, i'm not sure what does! More testing later this month and more vids to come...

An official map showing exact distances...if we race 1500 ft the shutdown is 950 ft before the banking. If we race 1600 ft the shutdown is 850 ft. Just an FYI more than anything...
