Thanks. It has not gone well thus far, nothing but pain and aggravation. Nothing as promised, nothing on time, nothing on budget, you get the idea. In other words, a typical build...lol

Once The thing gets to the point of running I will post up a thread. At this point, I'm waiting on turbos, plumbing, exhaust, tuning, more bodywork, ABS, setup, etc. A LONG way to go. John

Zulu -- yours was one of the original white 6.GT2s? When you get that beast all sorted out and you want to trade someone for a nice boring street car, you just let me know

Oh man! That looks like it will be exciting!

Been there done that (Corvette) with the missed deadlines, missing parts etc. Only mine turned out to be a piece of garbage. Hope your build turns out well. Keep us updated.

Hoping for the best, but I would not do this again. Also, you may be interested in something I was told about the third gear issue. No idea if it is factual (yet) but it sounds plausible. Apparently our third gears do not engage 100%. They can be machined to achieve 100% engagement and I was told this solves the problem. California Motorsports builds the racing GT1 gearboxes for Vision and they have not had one fail yet. It's where mine will be heading sooner or later. Based on what you and others are saying I expect it will be "sooner". John

Hmmm, that's interesting. I'm debating on taking my gearbox apart and trying this and the intermediate shaft from the 997 as well. Or just waiting and doing it all once this gear goes. Wish I knew this 6 months ago.

Well, it's just hearsay at this point as I have no first hand knowledge. It's probably a combination of small things that shows up with higher loads in a racing environment.

No worries, I will do my homework before taking the plunge. I'll call and talk to California motorsports and the gearbox specialists (Guard, Gbox) on the intermediate shaft deal. Between the two it sounds like it may at least make it a more intermittent issue vs a yearly thing.

My box is at California Motorsports right now, Billco at Miller didn't assemble it back right after looking at it, nut backed off, took out the whole box Going to replace with a complete 997tt box. Hopefully a little stronger.

It was really that the clutch was installed with no grease on the metal to metal moving parts needle bearings ect, parts wore out and created play so it wasn't disengaging completely which was my suspicion in the first place, but they took the trans apart to look at it to see why it was hard to put in 1st and reverse, when it was all put back same problem so I had a different shop pull the clutch to check and found that the clutch itself was in great shape just all the parts were wore causing the play . After it was put back in with new needle bearings ect. It worked and shifted into reverse and 1st perfectly until it came apart taking out 6th and 5th. Gearbox was a total loss.

The RS models of yesteryear came with shaved carpet and you used to
could purchase from a couple outfits in Panorama. I think the rs carpet
including felt, is still available but not for the 996 platform.

I ordered and installed the true German rs carpet in my 1989 ANDIAL 930.

As you know, I got creative with the 996TT and took a queue from our LS
friends. Had all the sound deadening pulled and replaced with paperboard
molding. Replaced factory carpet with Ozite carpet. Total weight savings:
40 lbs. And it looks fantastic!
