2003 996 Porsche Turbo - CARB Sticker

I am looking at 03 996 Turbo in Nevada that has been modified with an Evolution Motorsports 610 package. My question is this: Is it necessary to have a CARB sticker showing that the car meets California emissions standards if the car passes a California smog test?

I'm no expert but I started a recent thread on here under title "F***ing CA smog" because my car failed the tamper test here in CA (in Sac county). The only non-stock part on my car were two EVOMS diverters. They are barely visible but clearly look aftermarket.

The car was flagged as TAMPERED and even though it passed all the sniff tests they failed it. CA's smog site stated any changes to the "turbo system" would be a violation unless the parts and an Executive Order (EO) number. The tech told me the EO number must be posted within the engine bay. If it's there you're good. However, my experience is that there are no EO numbers for these aftermarket Porsche parts (I searched CA's EO database).

You should carefully consider how you'll smog that car in CA. Maybe just keep it registered in Nevada!

That the sticker is missing is a bit troubling as it suggests it was lost due to body/paint work or replacement of the panel on to which the sticker was pasted.

As for it missing and what effect this will have on the car I can't say. I seem to recall someone else going this missing sticker business but I do not recall the outcome.

Here's a link that might be of some value:

In CA the neighbors are pretty good about turning in someone living next door or close by with a car registered out of state to avoid taxes. Also, the insurance may not be valid if the car is registered in NV (say) and yet spends its time, actually resides in CA.

If the OP gets caught with the car registered out of state there's dealing with that. But there is also having to deal with getting the car registered in CA.

So he might as well resolve this now so he can get the car registered in CA with no problem.
