Starting Noise, is it normal?

2002 Porsche 996 Turbo with 25K. Recently noticed a noise while COLD Starting ONLY. some thing like a worn out bearing noise lasting only for about a minute. Looks like coming the black plastic tube (marked with my paw on the video). All help will be well-appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Secondary air pump sounds normal to me. These cars are very noisey.

Thanks for your reply. The whining noise only for initial 1 min worries me.

I have the noise on my car too. 2001 with about 55k miles. I can hear it turn off after a minute or so, spools down so I know it's shutoff and not just warmed up.

However, I don't think the noise is normal. Mine started making it earlier this year, only when cold started. I plan to ask my mechanic when I bring it in for oil change later this month.

if it only happens on cold start, then it has to be emissions related.

I have the same suspicion. The air pump is electrically operated and is located on the passenger side in the engine bay.

Yep - that's probably it. Looks to be about $250-$300 for the part and an easy install. Thanks!

1000% secondary air pump. I have read somewhere that it can be pulled apart and that a bearing just needs to be greased.
