Are there any lightweight flywheels out there...

I think Kevin's LWFW tune slightly raises the idle RPM which helps reduce the chatter. When you load up the engine with the A/C the idle rpms drop a little and the chatter is more audible. I have a friend who had installed the UMW LWFW tune on his car that had the stock DMWF and the rpms between shifts just hung up there without barely dropping. Once the DMWF UMW tune was installed all was good. This makes it clear that the LWFW tune takes the much lower mass of the FW into consideration thus preventing the stalling issue many complain about.

I have a Sachs 2.5 with a LFW and would never do it again. Living in Dallas in this heat the chatter is loud. Clutch yes, fly wheel no.

The amount of chatter has a lot to do with the type of clutch disc that is used. What kind of disc are you running? "Stage 2.5" means nothing. It's just a designation used by vendors that market aftermarket kits but does not tell you what components are used. Where your tuner sets the idle will also play a part in the amount of chatter. Do you have a lwfw specific tune?

Kit from AWE. The OP asked a question and I answered. This is my opinion of my car. I live in Dallas so if the OP wants to check out my car and the chatter he can. You said in a previous post there is chatter in LWFW's. This is subjective just like drone on exhausts. I don't want the rpm's higher just to diminish the chatter, I can use the radio for that. It's not a bad setup just noisy and not to my personal taste.

We should all get together sometime and compare what's unique about our cars (I have the DCTMS smaller steering wheel and 997 shifter assembly, for instance). I'd also like to see how a LWFW feels/sounds.

Agreed... when this deep freeze is over and temps return to a more reasonable number LOL

I just breezed through this thread.. I would use the 964rs. Call Don at EBS. http://www.ebsracing.com/
Ask him about it. Also ask about the Kennedy sprung disc, it will hold more torque then most other discs out there..

As an update... I got my Awe Tuning Sachs 2.5 clutch kit in the mail today. It's got the 764 pressure plate, but the clutch disc is solid. There's no way I'd want to go with a LWFW now. I thought the disc would be a sprung hub. Oh well.

DMFW use a solid disc, LWFW use a sprung. Does AWE market that kit with the solid disc for LWFW use??

From the pics though, the 2.5 kit comes with a solid disc only.

And that's exactly why some people have such a lousy experience with some of these vendor stage xx clutch "kits" out there. A solid disc coupled with a LWFW will be much noisier with worse drivability compared to a correct sprung disc set up. Many vendors of shops will sell you a stage xxx kit without really understanding what parts will work well together and which won't. Just because it bolts up doesn't mean it will work well. Caveat emptor... Kevin at UMW sells some great proven clutch packages...
