My thanks to Mark (RS4Me) who let me hear his car and drive it a bit to get a sense of what the AWE 2.5 clutch kit + LWFW sound and feel like.

For those wondering... it sounds like a track car. If that's your thing, then great, but it was precisely what I was hoping to avoid in doing my upcoming clutch swap. Much too noisy at idle, sounds like a diesel truck to me, which is just like what my old modified car sounded like with a pucked disk and LWFW.

Thanks for your time Mark, I feel much better about putting that money towards a GT2 clutch conversion vs getting the LWFW. I owe you a beer or two.

Is the stock turbo disc solid or sprung? I may not even keep this disc if it makes too much noise.

Ours are sprung discs..
I don't believe any one would sell a unsprung disc with a lightweight flywheel especially with it being driven on the street..

Well, perhaps someone from AWE will chime in here and explain whether they use a sprung hub in their kit if you also buy the LWFW. From their website, it doesn't look like it.

John, are you running a stock DM flywheel? The pressure plate and disc I have is the same one you are using.

Yes I have the stock dual mass with the Sachs Performance highest clamping force pressure plate and the Sachs special GT2 unsprung hub... No GT2 conversion.
I really like..Its a lot better then my last 2 Clutch Master set ups even though those had sprung hubs,, it modulates like stock ..

It was great meeting you today but I must say after seeing you car I want to park mine in the garage until I do some add on's like what you have done to yours. It's a small world both knowing Alex where you got your BBS wheels from. We should start a North Tx get together being there are a bunch of us. Lapis Blue was the color I was thinking of by the way.
Again, Good meeting you.

John... Chatter? Noise at idle? Noise with a/c on? If you say it's fine I'll stick with this clutch disk, you have the same turbos I have and basically the same setup I'm going for, so if it works for you then I'll give it a try.

Great meeting you as well! You and I have similar taste with our mods

I appreciate the recommendation for RAC as well, I'll have to give them a shout to see what they can do for me.

Let me know when you want to collect on those drinks I owe you!

John,

Could you please breakdown the parts needed for your current clutch? I'm in the process of upgrading to k24/20's and other parts that should put me mid 600 whp (hopefully low 700) but still want a easy clutch. I prefer not to have one engage high on the pedal travel. I also don't want chatter.

I bought my Sachs pressure plate and special GT2 disc straight from Sachs Performance in Europe.. You can look them up on line ..
Then I bought a stock Bosch throw out bearing from Automotion,, they were the cheapest , they give PCA members and 6 speeders a discount ..
I still have my original DM wheel after the 3rd clutch swap and 45,000 miles so far..LOL..

Thanks John. I'll start that parts hunt NOW. I'll likely keep my current DMFW as it has only slipped once. Actually, I'll just take the advise of the shop during installation.
