Snapped timing chain?

Heard back from the shop, doesn't sound good.
They did a compression test, #4 is at 65psi. Apparently the camshaft for that bank isn't spinning, so that's no bueno.
Now i'm trying to decide whether it's worth putting in $12-15k into rebuilding the engine on a 2002 car with 84k miles.
I'm worried that if i do, i'll just end up with a dead transmission or something in another 6 months.

tough decisions. GL.

As for the car, i'll most likely fix it and keep driving it. If i were to ditch it, i'd still owe money on it and i don't think i could find anything half as much fun for double the cost of repairing it.

Well your oil pump, ims and ims gears are gone.. You will need some valves and lifters in one head but both heads would need a going through, up date your intake lifters? Piston(s).. Expensive. Liners are too. You plan on rods? while you are in there? Or any other mods?

Yea, they told me 10-15k... sucks really really hard, but that kind of money would buy me a corolla, which isn't quite as much fun. Plus at the end it would have a practically new engine.

i have nothing but empathy. my thinking this week has been i am approaching 997.1t territory with my unexpected expenses, but i'm gonna have a much better setup car than a stock 997.1t but you're completely in that realm with a full build, though if you're carrying paper on the car now? ouch. man, that's pain on top of.. sheesh..
but if you owe on it still you gotta rebuild and see it thru. which'll be better than, like you said.. a whole lot of other choices once you do.

I thought those started around 60k, and i don't think i could get more than 15k for a 996tt rolling chassis.
Did you look into how much you could get for your car as-is?

Wow. I'm so sorry about your engine. That's a real tough break. On the plus side, you'll have basically a brand new engine after its all done. Hope things come out well for you. Keep us posted on the progress
