Turbo. I test drove the 997.1S and still bought a TT. I do like the styling on the 997 a little better but you forget about that quickly when you start driving

Hi all and thanks for ur input. I think that confirms my thoughts about the cars. These are both fantastic cars and yes, the styling is somewhat newer with the 997 but to be brutally honest (and i dont want to offend anyone) i feel it looks to much like a VW Beetle. One of my friends bought a 2014 VW beetle and the front end is just so similar to the 997

So - i will check the Turbo a little better and see what happens.

Read this thread from member T2. He has 340K miles on his 996 Turbo and it's still running strong. The motor in the Turbo is NOTHING like the non-turbo cars. The GT1 Metzger engine in the Turbo is specific only to the turbo cars and is very durable and clearly long lasting. It's the reason we buy these cars.

Some Porsche owners think the turbo engine is the same or even similar to the non-turbo motor, this simply couldn't be farther from the truth. They may both be flat 6 and in a Porsche, but the similarities stop there.

Turbo. Easy decision. Unless you LOVE the 997 look so much that you would give up everything else.

The engine is the reason (one of many) that I bought mine. The ability to tweak power and performance with the 6TT is amazing. Just look at what so many of us here have done to these cars. I've only recently gotten mine and before I did I knew the year spread and Turbo I would eventually get. I put three boys through college (big name schools) and now my reward is to have a car that I can make new anytime I want by the endless mod's available. Even stock these cars are one of the best bang for your buck out there. I found my 02' with 20,000 miles on it with some nice mods and did my research. PPI and due diligence will give you driving pleasure many only dream about. What puzzles me is that more people don't see the real value in these. I mean we get one of the best racing engines ever developed at this price! Come on it is a no brainer for me. Dream come true for me every time I get inside! Get the Turbo, make it yours and never look back. Just my .02.

He's now trying to make his car look fancier, bumpers wing etc. you get all that from Porsche with the turbo. Just can't imagine paying same money for a slower car just cause its newer. There is no year of 911 that isn't cool so year is irrelevant.

The cars are sold?

No... I mean, me and my buddy were in this same position as the OP last year. 996tt vs 997C2 which are about the same price. I went for a 996 Turbo he went for a 997 C2. My post was just sharing how it went (in my opinion) based on each of our purchases.

Not to mention M96/m97 engines are garbage. Wish I had bought a turbo.

I've been through an awful lot with my turbo and I'm just now getting to enjoy it. I had gt3 stripes put on yesterday and soon I'll have my GT2 front bumper installed. I'll be getting a GT2 add-on spoiler at some point as well. Then I'll get it tuned. Any maybe even have the hood and roof wrapped in satin black to offset against the silver. It's going to be completely cool and a GOTTSPD original. I feel like I've got a great car and I think if I had a non-turbo, I'd feel a bit less compelled to go crazy with it because I think I'd be longing for a turbo.

I had the same decision back in 2008. I was looking at new, old stock 997.1 Cabs with tiptronic and came across a 996 TT Cab with Tip. Wife preferred the look of the TT and in fact insisted on my getting the TT. So insistent she wrote me a cheque for half as a birthday present. I certainly happy with my/her decision. The torque etc. with the TT makes it a wonderful car. Now I have a 991S X51 Cab as well so best of both worlds.

Test drive both. I did. The C2S is not even in the same universe. Turbo any day.

Even the headlights that everybody hates, make the 996tt stand out amongst all 911. The way I see it, it's the only 911 that will ever have anything else than oval headlights. Ain't that cool...
