Ring & Pinion and Misc Damage to Trans

Ok,
I thought I share this interesting YouTube link that highlights the possible damage when one form of the trannie 'ring & pinion" is improperly set up (oh, I will just eye ball it solution)...let’s say it most likely was not fully measured on the specs. Combine that with high HP one ends up with a mess.
I'm sure glad that's not my trannie that will need a lot of help & $$$

Could also be Differential bearing failure.

Plus 1 on what VAG said. Way to much play for it to be shimmed wrong, also there is in and out play in the stubs. About 1/4 inch or so.

What can happen is if you slide the car sideways and impact the wheel it can destroy wheel bearings. If the hit is hard enough it forces the driveshaft inward and can destroy differential bearings too.

Incorrect differential shimming manifests itself with noises first usually.

i recently caused my g'box bearings ( not wheel bearings ) to fail immediately after taking a VERY hard right turn nearly 45 degree angle, and heard a bearing whine within a cpl miles of the "event" requring a r&r and bearing replacement.

i'm told thatwhile the bearings are heat cycle sensitive it was that hard lateral force that exterted undue stress, resulting in bearing failure. they can only take so much ( at 111k miles, some tracking ), and are partially "sealed" which allows them to dry out..heat cycles again...
