I'm largely in agreement with you. Obviously, I cannot comment directly as I have had neither car out on the track. I also agree that driving lessons are the biggest thing you can do. That is why I have a data acquisition system, what I consider to be a permanent and perfect instructor.
Rockitman: Yes, hp (and more importantly fat torque) may not win races but no racer in the history of mankind would turn it down.
Here is my claim (just a claim, have no hard data). The same expert driver in a heavily modded tt (full suspension and stage 4gt), equal tires, would beat a stock GT-2. I think the hp and torque would be too big of a hurdle to overcome but this is only a guess.
Let’s go to the ring for some time comparisons: (the numbers aren’t very good for comparison as they are not well controlled, but that’s all I have)
New GT3: 7 min. 54 sec.
Old GT3: 8 min. 03 sec.
GT2: 7 min. 46 sec.
996 Turbo: 7 min. 56 sec.

OK, the primary difference between the GT3 and the GT2 is hp/torque, so the GT got 8 seconds with 97 hp and 187 torque (big difference).
The Stage4GT tt would have 640 hp 670 torque, so 163 more hp and 198 more torque than the GT2. I think the GT-2 would be in serious trouble and if it didn’t win, it sure wouldn’t lose by much.
