What the hell happened to my HVAC screen?

left the car for a few days inside my office garage, started her up tonight and the HVAC screen looks fried

pic attached

with the car off, you can also see the imperfections - it looks like a fluid got behind the film

is this a common problem? any fix short of replacement? if replacement, where's best to source a new module?

for anyone interested, it's an '03 w/ 42k miles

My '04 display went also. Dealer replaced it as part of the deal . Search eBay...no need to pay the ridiculous dealer cost

Try Modulemaster
have used them for an ABS module rebuild and an instrument cluster rebuild (dead pixels) on an Audi - great work both times.
You ship them the part - they fix, ship back...instructions on their web site

just checked their website, $100 core swap (or i guess repair of yours) -- not bad considering the kits are about $25-$50 and then there's the whole how the hell do I do this factor

regardless, i do need to figure out how to remove the unit -- i havent looked yet, but is it obvious/simple?

i tried youtube and google but didnt find anything on removal

plastic tool to pop off the outside surround piece. it reveals the screws that hold the unit in place. remove them and it slides right out

so the issue, yeah it fixed itself

im talking about being back to perfect/new

first noticed it was getting better a couple weeks ago (i.e. better = 50 % less pixilation), then all of the pixelation just simply disappeared

hope all future issues with this car simply just resolve with no explanation

I was going to say, a lot of times LCD screens heal themselves, especially when it is extra excited pixels like in your image. Sometimes you can gently massage them to speed up the process.

If pixels go blank, then they are probably dead.
