You may be right, the intent was not to start a debate on what is better.
I find this type of question(s) without regard to use or application meritless at best. In this case the answer can be summarized to "any and all brands listed in the A40 document". I think sometimes is good to know the background of why the question is being asked too. Again, my thoughts only, I think the spirit of the forum is to exchange info and one hopes not for anecdotal ones but more with practical as well as scientific support.

Normally, I use Mobil 1 TDT 5w-40 and I use T6 5w-40 in everything else I own. Since they have a $5 rebate right now I decided to try T6 in the porsche.

Ran Motul 300v 20w60 for years w/0 problems. IMHO the finest. But switched to Rotella T6 to quiet the rattle, which it did.

WOW,,I would think that weight is a lot of drag in the motor but also great High Heat protection..

 

Rotella T6 and completely silenced the VW rattle at idle! Also, did not use a drop between the oil change (3450 miles).

 

I run those fluids in the vette and like them a lot. But the Mobil does have 400 more ppm than the Amsoil.
