Come on my brutha. Lets not try to relate actual experiences. If we did, all the magazine racers would have nothing to talk about.

That kind of stuff is so aggravating. I wouldn't know whether to correct the guy and just be embarassed explaining anything to an idiot, or just walk a way and let him feel like he's right.

I had a similar experience once, but it was the other way around...it was the guy in the p-car that had no clue. I pulled onto pitlane in a honda civic track car at a local open test day. It was putting about 225hp to the wheels and only weighed about 2k lbs, had full racing suspension, and was very dialed in. There was a guy w/ his Girl and a private instructor standing next to his stock base model 993 coupe. The guy looked at me, smiled condescendingly, and said to his gf..."look honey, a honda hatchback, how cute. I didn't know people could race those things" I just chuckled to myself and continued putting my driving suit on and checking my tire pressures. The 1st session, I warmed up my tires and then passed him in the chicane and put about 5 car lenths on him by the end of the following straight. not knowing the track well, there was no way he was chasing me through the nascar oval. The whole time by, his girlfriend was snapping photos as we passed pitlane.

A bit later I stopped in the pits again and I asked her if she got any good shots of the cute little honda flying past the 911 racecar...she laughed and gave me an appologetic look realizing how much of a moron her man was at that monent. It was priceless...

guess he should have bought a viper.....

the moral of the thread: don't talk trash if you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

Another funny story. I go with a buddy to a high end used car lot in Miami. He's looking to lease a 2001 Mercedes CL600 (this was in 2002). The owner of the lot is showing us around (my buddy had leased several cars from there before so the owner decided to work with him instead of a salesman), when we get to the Mercedes. The lot owner tells us how great it is and that it is the CL600 SPORT. I look at the car and see it has AMG wheels but certainly not the sport package. The guy says, of course it's the sport package - a $5000 option and that's why the lease for it is a bit higher.

I get frustrated looking at a Mercedes without a AMG body kit (I had owned a sport CL600 a couple months earlier) and hearing this guy telling my buddy it has a $5000 option that it clearly doesn't, so I tell him flatly he doesn't know what he's talking about. He challenges me to a bet of $1000. Offers to call the local Mercedes dealer and have them run the VIN. They do; I'm right. SHOCKINGLY he actually handed me a check on the spot for $1000. He may not know much about cars but I certainly had respect for him in being a man of his word.

Oh so you think a stock viper is CGT or GT2 level?

I just posted the Nring time, if that isnt enough for you then thats too bad.

I WAS JOKING about the turbocharging bit. I saw a guy that almost lost it when his TT viper came around a corner (way too much power).

I know they are fast in streight line from the factory but many people have said they lack in handling compared to Porsches/ferraris.

I dont appreciate the verbal jabs

Nurburgrings aren't enough for anyone, for many reasons, who knows what the track conditions were like, etc. As someone else pointed out, p-cars are virtually tuned for the ring these days.

Second, there are many many people who have owned both or done racing in both in (even in this thread that have given you your answer). The viper definately doesn't lack in handling and are anything but just a straight line demon. Just take a look at the domination they made in their racing classes when they hit the roads.

I don't recall making any personal jabs.

Who the hell compared the Viper to a CGT? Or a GT2 to a CGT? You pull so much **** out of the blue sometimes man On a track a GT2 and a Viper will be a very very very good comparison. If we were to talk about straight line racing, the GT2 will probably have a hard time in stock form. Your comments were pure ignorance However from the majority of your posts it's clear you seem to be a p-car guy, as opposed to a "car" guy. So of course, there is no way a stock viper could handle a GT2 (and if we were talking about refinement, elogence, etc...it would be the case, but we are strictly talking about speed)

and a reply to you that you somehow didn't comment on:

Enjoyed the ride!

I drove a '98 GTS in an open road race. What a blast! The road was slippery with crickets and the Viper was really fun to throw around. Averaged about 160 mph for 80 miles and then...some bad **** happened. Viper threw a rod thru the block, puked oil all over the tires, had a fire in front and a fire in the rear. I stayed on the road, all shiny side up,no problem.I survived but the Viper was hurt pretty bad. I just have to say the whole thing was really fun,I loved the sound, the RWD and the N/A response.Don't know about the brakes since I really didn't use them.

ORR in a GT2 was fun but with Watt driving I needed expresso to stay awake.

Cheers

R
