the viper is a very fast car, but anyone that thinks it is as fast as a gt2 is wrong. On top of that, in most magazine numbers, the gt2 is extremely close to the CGT. Remember its a proven dyno fact that the gt2's power was underrated from the factory. Obviously ive never driven a CGT, so i dont know if that is realistically true, but that is off of magazine numbers that are very often inaccurate.

Like i previously said, i have driven a viper and althought it is extremely fast, i think the gt2 is faster. Furthermore, we have an 02 which was had the least power of any model year gt2. Im sure the newer ones were even faster!

Obviously, i cannot speak for modded vipers, because im told those are ridiculously out of control on power, but stock ones would lose even in a straightline race to a gt2. Hey mana, I know you LOVE the viper in this comparison, but have you ever driven a gt2? (please dont say, "no, but ive driven a modded trubo".)

Well I am back, I could not resist.

I will make this my last post on this thread though.

My point on this thread is not about which car is faster. I am not interested in the dick swinging contest. It's about all the nutswingers who feel the need to argue the fact, regardless of the car. This forum, for that matter most of them, has become more and more about magazine times and less about the actual owners. Call me crazy, but I take more serious they guys who own the cars and drive the cars than I do the guys who read about them or "know a guy who knows a guy". Getting into an argument with one of these said nutswingers is a waste of time. Not saying that only owners count, but if you don't own the car, have never driven the car or have no other experience with the car why must you insist on arguing your point. I just don't get it. Get some actual experience and join the fray, if not keep quiet and learn until you do.

Hamann, You want to know how much time I have in a GT2. Obviously not enough. Probably about as much as you do in a Viper. The GT2 is an awsome machine and I know you enjoy the hell out of it. Keep it up.

M3jOn, Yes I have driven a GT2. Re-read my posts. Never did I claim either was faster. I was just trying to make a point. The point is ... unless you have driven BOTH, personally, you really don't know just what the car is capable of. You say you have, so your opinion counts.

Ryan, I never said anything about money. I am talking about ACTUAL PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. You have none so your opinion does not mean anything but you are the most insistant that it does. Shame on me??? Shame on you ....

I'm the guy who posted the Road Atlanta info. In response to Ryan's comment about the information, it's not hard to find. The David Murry test was in Panorama when the GT2 came out. I was surprised how slow the GT2 was; I expected it to be much faster. Maybe it was suspension setup or David not being comfortable with the car (although he is a very good driver). The Viper times can be found through the viperdays site or the viper club site. I owned, and tracked a GTS for a while and stayed on top of the times. I also own two Porsches and have tracked them as well. My point is that the cars are close enough, on Road Atlanta, that it will come down to the driver imo. Even the numbers Ryan posted show the power to weight of the two cars being almost identical. That being said, I sold the GTS and still have the two P cars...

As a side note, the Viper's in the stock class in Viper days run stock rubber.

Roy

ps. Ryan, the old Viper GTS had 50 less hp in Europe than the US car, I don't know about the SRT10, I don't keep track of Vipers since I sold mine...

'98 Viper GTS (stock) vs '01 911 turbo (mild exhaust work + heavy 19" HREs) =

basically dead even from any speed roll

The GTS typically gets the jump as it makes 400btq at idle. If I got the jump, then we would stay even as we cycled the gears. I might have barely pulled in 3rd gear, actually.

Here's another vid:

996TT S w/ exhaust vs 2003 Mustnag cobra (501rwhp 484rwtq)
Its not all about HP.

This mustang puts about a carlength on a 97 Viper GTS with headers, exhaust, intake, aluminum flywheel, and Roller rockers (460rwhp 510rwtq)

for everyone that wants to argue, lets just agreee to disagree. i think everyone has said their piece and now its jsut "a dick swinging contest" as mana said.

Id say the majority of the people posting on this thread havent driven both cars and are talking out of their asses. I even said in my post that the magazine numbers that i based the performance of the CGT are probably wrong.

Magazines are not a good source of real world performance. FUrthermore, to those arguing a point comparing modded cars, that really isnt a good means of proving a point.

p.s. the point of this thread was to poke fun ath the salesmans techniques, not to compare the viper and the gt2.
