Attitude?

It's amazing that a 13yo car can bring out the worst in people! I get the hate all the time accompanied by the middle finger! I just assumed that most of the folks were just hating on me cause they don't like my 996 headlights...lol

Lots of good comments here. I don't want to re-quote everyone though...
I stumbled across this quote yesterday, seems pretty fitting:
“Don't let the opinions of the average man sway you. Dream, and he thinks you're crazy. Succeed, and he thinks you're lucky. Acquire wealth, and he thinks you're greedy. Pay no attention. He simply doesn't understand.” -Robert G. Allen

It really hits the nail on the head.

To ad to this, I'm 29 and before the Porsche I had a '67 mustang fastback. Everyone assumed I was a genuine good guy and felt they had to approach me and tell me their story about a mustang. Now that I have a Porsche, strangers just assume I'm a ***** and don't approach me in parking lots or gas stations. I prefer not having the attention personally.

Everything can be put in perspective I guess. I bought a new 1996 Harley Davidson low rider and other then a lot of vibration was a great bike. My point is that the people that came up to me and wanted to talk were the polar opposite of myself and sold it a month later. Kept my Ducati and 1100 Suzuki lol.

This. Those jealous or judgmental people are not worth knowing and not worth your time, so who cares.

Point #1 - To ignore those that are "not worth knowing" may invite negative attention. Negative attention may garner physical damage (door dings when parked, getting keyed, egged, etc...). This isn't like gingivitis, you can't just ignore it to make it go away.
I'm not suggesting that we can't enjoy our cars, nor should anybody sell anything to comfort someone else's inadequacies. But - I recommend that one should weigh the risks according to their individual assessment, consider the consequence, then enjoy what they deem appropriate.

I don't get much negative attitudes, although I did have a pickup truck slow down on the highway, waited for me and tried to spit on my 911. I have guys saying, "driving your dad's Porch." I don't justify how I got it, not worth my time. I usually just smile and go about my business.

Love this thread. Where I live, you get a bit of both, but most don't care. Much more expensive cars around here than my poor 996tt. One of my neighbors said his kid loved the "SuperCar", I said "I'll give him a ride in it the car if you are ok with it". That made the kids day. Thats how I love to pass on the dream to the next generation. Other cars in the neighborhood are 458, GTRs, 430 and couple muscle cars.
Love this quote, going to use it in my sig :-D

I dunno, i think it has to do with the "porsche porcupine" jokes.
I just picked up a '14 Maser GTS Convertible. I get tons of waves and comments, but they are all incredibly positive. I've had poor homeless guys grinning from ear to ear etc etc.
While there *may* be a wealth bias, I never see it when I drive the maser. When I drive my crappy old 600hp 996TT, ya I hear the porcupine jokes at the parking lot at work...lol

This is funny. I get attitude and attention all the time. Most of it is very positive but it gets old. Everyone and their brother wants to drag race. I get pictures taken of me while driving. I had some kids in an eclipse video tape me.. It must have looked bad a$$ as I was doing the 40mph speed limit, lol..
The only bad attitude is people don't want me to merge in traffic if it looks like I will "gain" position over them. In my Truck, people let me in all the time. All this and I just shuffle along in my car. I barely speed, etc.. but, the car draws a ton of attention, its embarrassing. I am really considering tinting the windows because of the attention I get.
All this for a car that is cheaper than a loaded Toyota Camry
