i have a 996 C2, putting the cold air intake on it, just put the exhaust and porsche oem shortshifter kit, and i want to chip it, but as i said i has a brand new engine, oh yeah and the BMC air filter, with all this what is the HP increase and will i actually feel it? and is it only $500??? why so much less than the evo or giac?
what do you when you need to bring the car to the dealer for service? thanks in advanc e Ted
I don't know that upsolute has a N/A chip...if they do you will not feel much differrence, a chip only makes significant difference with forced induction.

A. The chip ups the boost for a turbo'd car, so you will easily feel the power increase. With an N/A car, it is less of a power increase.

B. To give you an idea, GIAC charges about $500 for a chip on an Audi or VW. They charge 4-5x that for a Porsche. Basically doing the same type of stuff. The ECU is the only difference, but it isn't much of a difference. Upsolute charges $500 across Audi, VW, and Porsche. They don't mark it up just because it is a Porsche.

Granted, GIAC produces the key-fob program switcher as an option, so that would denote a price increase. I honestly don't believe that a standard "reprogram" denotes that much of a price increase over the "other" German cars, but that's just me. Some blame it on research/development costs, some blame it on a type of price-gouging. The Upsolute chip produces as much power as the other options (for the turbos that is).

.7 bar? Mine is only getting .6. Is that because of the cheap CA gas or is it time for a tune up?

Plus...Ive contacted the Upsolute dealer for LA (located in Chino), and he wants $700 for the chip and $25 for the install. He is saying 490hp and 510 lbs, then I can add an exhaust, intake, etc. Does this sound right to anyone else?

Yeah, their prices went up on Porsche. The install is pretty easy, but for $25, I'd probably let him do it.

1 Bar = 14.5PSI
1 ATM = 14.7PSI

Basically, it's how much boost we're running... positive manifold pressure due to turbo-charging.

Eh, it's probably not worth it on a naturally aspirated car.

It's SO good to finally see someone correctly label the bar vs psi conversion.

The difference has to deal with SI values vs what was used in the old days.

1 bar = 1000 mbar = 100,000 Pa
1 atm = 1012.95 mbar = 101,325 Pa

Meteorologists use "bar" because they can specificy 1000 mbar w/o having to use decimals. Weather patterns change the pressure greatly. One is for weather (bar) while atm is for normal measurements. They are almost the same, but still a small bit off.

I am looking for those with an Upsolute chip + long term usage/many miles.

What are the long term effects? Who has the most miles on their Upsolute'd TT?
Ruiner,
Upsolute installed February '04 with approx 15K miles added since then (28K total). To date, no CELs, no misfires, no hesitations and running the original MAF. In addition to the Upsolute, I'm running Bailey DVs, B&B exhaust w/ 100 cell cats, and EVO intake. The car just screams and so do I.
