Unfortunately yes and most common route seems to be rebuilt tranny; do some searching on here it has been covered mannyyy times. Sorry and good luck

ok, wow this sucks. car only has 31k on it
so does this mean that...... if i hold it in gear it will still forcfully pop out? or if i have my hand on the shifter i should be fine.
it did it to me twice under decelleration while coasting to a stop. but otherwise it feels fine.

Fixing it requires you r&r the 1/2 synchros and they usually replace the first and second gears. It's $4\5k to fix at most reputable gearbox rebuilders but "can" be done cheaper if they don't charge you full retail.
Or you can attempt the detent mod (search a hundred threads) which might help prevent further popouts if the dogring/synchro still has enough material on it to allow for a full engagement of 2nd.
Or just keep your hand on the shifter anytime you're driving downhill.

ok so i did the research and found all what u guys are talking about. i dont have the 3-6k to do the fix right now, nor do i really want to if nothing is "wrong"
if i can just keep my hand on the shifter while accel/decell and everything will be ok then im certainly fine with that for now.

Sucks, man. Sorry to hear. Just curious though, did you have a PPI done on your car before you bought it? This is one of the biggies to look for, along with coolant fitting issues, an over-revved engine, etc...

a friend of mine has the car now, hes building straight pipes for me. i just called him and hes very familiar with the second gear popout/8mm ball fix. he told me he was friends with tim from NYC and will do the fix for me while he has the car in the air today.
i would like to give Adam Hennessy hugeeeeeeeeeeeee props and credit for helping me out. the guy is a master at his craft and the work he does is bar none some of the best fab work ive ever seen. if anyone is in the area (albany ny) and needs something done to your Porsche or other exotic, there is no one else i would trust.

Pre-purchase inspection. I'm guessing no then?
I've read that the 8mm bearing may or may not fix the pop-out issue depending on how severe the situation is. I hope it works out for you. Either way, the gear shifts will feel way more solid. Good luck.
