How does the Gallardo compare to the GT2?
#46
Having driven both a 6 speed and e-gear Gallardo and owning a 2003 GT2, I think the Gallardo is more in line with the Turbo than the GT2.
Although I think the Gallardo is much more exotic looking and sounding, it's AWD and considerable weight make it feel a lot more TT like than GT2 like.
If you're going for head turning and sound then go with the Gallardo but if you're into the driving experience then it's definitely the GT2. Just my .02.
Good Luck,
Amir

This reminds me of the classic joke...
A man wanted to get married. He was having trouble choosing among
three likely candidates. He gives each woman a present of $5,000 and
watches to see what they do with the money.
The first does a total make over. She goes to a fancy beauty salon
gets her hair done, new make up and buys several new outfits and dresses up
very nicely for the man. She tells him that she has done this to be more attractive
for him because she loves him so much.
The man was impressed.
The second goes shopping to buy the man gifts. She gets him a new set
of golf clubs, some new gizmos for his computer, and some expensive
clothes. As she presents these gifts, she tells him that she has spent all the
money on him because she loves him so much.
Again, the man is impressed.
The third invests the money in the stock market. She earns several !
times the $5,000. She gives him back his $5000 and reinvests the
remainder in a joint account. She tells him that she wants to save for their
future because she loves him so much.
Obviously, the man was impressed.
The man thought for a long time about what each woman had done with
the money he'd given her.

Then, he married the one with the biggest *****.
The Gallardo is just that, the one with the big *****. I too have driven both and to me, the GT2 is a bit more gutsy. Still looking around town there are just so many 996TTs, and 50% of them have the faux GT2 look. Speed, who cares really if you can pull away from a Viper or another Turbo, those owners are STILL going to look at you and say to themselves what a beautiful car that Gallardo is. On the track, I've seen guys with a $8K Civic or Corolla GTS go around turns FASTER than any Viper. Good luck in your decision but the Gallardo looks fast slow or still.

Keep the GT2!
It is clearly the drivers car of the two. It takes a LOT more talent to drive the GT2 well versus the Gallardo. Aside from its stunning looks and intoxicating sounding engine its a little boring to drive aggressively in my opinion. The GT2 is more exciting to drive and feels more alive and demands a lot of respect. If you don't; hello curb or worse. If you want a "real" sports car that involves you in the driving experience, keep the GT2.
If you just want to cruise Sunset Boulevard or PCH and attract lots of attention, then get the Gallardo. It clearly is much more exotic looking than the GT2. Don't get me wrong, the Gallardo is a great performance car, just not on par with the GT2 in my opinion.
By the way, how hard do you push your GT2 in the twisties? If your driving skills are not that great, you might be better off in the Gallardo, since it is much more forgiving with its AWD drivetrain, which takes a lot less skill to drive quickly versus the GT2.
To me, the Gallardo is like a supermodel that is great to look at and be seen with, but just okay in the sack. The GT2 on the other hand is the hot librarian ready for an allnighter.
Personally, I love the intensity of the GT2.
Good luck with your decision, you can't go wrong with either one.
