Oh the misery!

I have been waiting and waiting and finally it seems that slightly used Turbo cabs have hit a very nice depreciation point. It may just be timing or just lack of demand but these cars are unusually weak and have come down to some seriously irresistable prices.

My problem is that I found a new 997S cab that is on the water and a slightly used 996TT cab that is ready to go. I have been agonizing for months on which way to go and now that it's decision time I still have no freaking idea which way to go. On the one hand, I would rather have the newer 997S just because it's new and I have not bought a used car since the first car I bought in high school. Plus the magazine articles etc... even though I am skeptical, are posting some seriously tasty performance numbers. On the other hand, I have never owned a car with forced induction and would love to have the feeling of turbos pushing me back into my seat. Plus, the TT can easily be modded for more ponies whereas the 997S is rather limited.

Then again, there is the old chassis vs the new chassis issue. I would be getting into a 996TT just as everybody is getting ready to get out of one and into a 997TT when it comes out.

This is just agonizing! Watch... by the time I make up my mind both cars will be sold.

TT cab, bro'. I drove them back to back and was shocked at how slow the 997s cab felt. Stage 1 in a 996tt cab is brutally fast.

Same Issues!!

I have faced the same issues recently. I have always bought new since my first car. I had a 9,500 mile 1999 C2 that I bought new and wanted something faster. Should I just wait and get the new 997 or pick up a used 996TT. Well, I found a 03' 996TT coupe with 3,600 miles and was able to get the regular warranty and extended warranty, so I went with it. The best decision I ever made. That turbo power just puts a smile on my face every day. I am like a little kid just waiting to drive that turbo. Maybe just maybe, I am a little biased, but I think the build quality on the TTs is substantially better as well. No regrets so far, I have had it six months.

Why not 997S ... and supercharge it? Yeah, that would void the warranty ... but ... errr ... yeah ... tough call.

I've had both the 996 NA and the 996 TT. If I had to do it over, there is little doubt about the choice...TT!!! And, someone else has eaten the depreciation.

TT, like you said, you've never owned a forced induction before, why not now. It'll put a big grin on your face.

New 997S probably more expensive than the used TT, considering new car depreciation on the former.

Almost the same decision I had 6 months ago. I test drove both and it was a no brainer, TT all the way. Mod the suspension, and it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Good luck, you can't go wrong with either choice!

I will have a hard time ever getting rid of my TT. The perfect color and the best platform for mods....

Definitely leaning towards the TT but ran into a snag. The interior and exterior color is right but the interior is black with red deviated stitching and there is aluminum crap all over it. There is just too much going on. I prefer all black with some CF pieces (the more the better) but once you get a dark interior and add a whole bunch of aluminum and then throw in red stitching... Barf-fest! There is a lot of aluminum, center console, door pulls, door lids, instrument surround, dash trim, speaker trim, side vents, luckily it's not a silver nav system. It will be expensive but I can easily change all of that to CF. Is there a way to dye the stitching effectively? I don't want little black lines all over me when I get out of the car either. Might be ok with black/CF and red deviated stitching. Damn damn damn! Come to think of it, all I know about the 997S cab coming in is that it is basalt black. I guess I should check on the interior color on that car too. Might be lime green with deviated purple stitching.
