Evoms Powered Race 996 TT Update!

Evoms powered 996 TT

Here is a lap of Putnam Park during the most recent PCA race in the Evolution Motorsports powered 996 TT. The car is now fully sorted and has turned into one dependable race car. We were able to run a qualifying time of 1:10.7 and record fastest lap in the Sprint race of 1:11.0.

The other car in front is a wicked 800 HP KMR 993 GT2 driven by my friend. He's running with a locked rear end which makes his car a lot more difficult to drive in the tight corners, thus running a slightly different line. He ran a 1:09.1 in qualifying and won the race!

Many thanks to Todd, Nate, Mike and the whole gang @ Evo!!! Thanks also to Suncoast Porsche, Forgeline Wheels, Moton Shocks, and GIAC Tuning!!!

The video is 26mb so right click and save.

Enjoy,

Rick

Looks like a great track I have never run there. What Evo motor are you running?

Rick:

OUTSTANDING!!!

OK, here come the comments from Mr. 10 seconds slower than you.

Turn 1.
Brake harder and later going into 1! I didn't hear any chirping? Lock em up! Excellent turn initiation, damn nice commitment. I like how you get on the throttle hard waiting for 2.

Turn 2.
Did you turn in a touch early for 2? Love the way you are squeezing the throttle as much as she'll take. Nice little catch.

Turn 3-4.
Sweet! Looks perfect to me.

Turn 5.
Gorgeous turn in well before you see the apex. Way fast. Perfect!

Turn 6.
Perfect! ... OK, this is getting boring.

Turn 7.
Nice turn in! How the hell did you get the car to do that? 2nd gear!!! You cheater! I'm using it this weekend!. I tried it a few times last event but kept busting loose the back end. Maybe with the lower camber back there it will hook up better.

Turn 8.
Looked great. You hug the inside more. I take more of Norm's line, from the middle then in. Can you discuss?

Turn 9.
Perfect, I love it! Look at how much time you gained on Norm. You trailbraked deep into 9 and hit the apex. This is much faster than the typical line Norm took.

Turn 10.
Looked perfect again.

Great lap. Now, tidy up the couple places I mentioned and go beat Norm!!!!

Buddy,

I'm running Evo's Stage 3 package on both my street and track car. I'm using KKK 24 turbo's, GT2/X50 Intercoolers, billet DV's, GIAC Tuning, 100 cell exhaust. Since this car was built for WCGT I can't change engine internals, however when it's time for the rebuild I'll have Evo put together what they think the engine should have and up the HP.

Putnam Park is a great track to test setup as it has a bit of everything. Many race teams will contract out Putnam for testing and clubs like PCA, NASA, and a few others will hold their races there. You should come down some time and run that red rocket of yours!

The key to this car going fast is not only the engine but handling. I'm using the fully adjustable Moton Shocks that Evo offers. After finding a good spring rate combination that works for me I'm just changing the Nitrogen, compression and rebound settings for each track.

Another part of the equation is I've got the weight of the car down to 2880 lbs. I might try the car next without the AWD just to see how the additional weight loss would effect handling.

I couldn't be happier with the level of customer service I've been provided by the above mentioned shops and products.

Thanks,
Rick

Thanks Tim, your comments are very accurate. The difference between this lap and the perfect lap or a near perfect qualifying lap is that this is the third lap of a 27 lap race. In a qualifying lap I would go deeper and later into T1 but in a longer race I have to take care of my brakes and tires. I think we both ran in the 1:11's on this lap.

Turn 2 turn in is a bit early therefore the little save at track out.

Turns 3-6 are pretty good.

Turn 7 In lapping I leave the car in 3rd. In qualifying I go to second and use 2nd or 3rd in the race. Remember I'm running a LSD so it's much easier to put down the power.

Turn 8's line has changed for me. I used to use the traditional line until I found out the level of grip on the inside seems to be far greater. 2/3 around the corner I slightly lift off the gas and the car rotates and back to throttle.

Turns 9 & 10 I double apex.

Norm has to drive on the more traditional line in order to use his locked rear end effectively. With a LSD he'd be running 1:06-1:07's

See you at Putnam,
Rick

We should do a 6speed track meet there. You, Tim, me and others. Any DE's left in October?

Thanks Rick, makes sense at 1 in a race. I'll be trying your line through 8 as well. I'll give 7 a try in 2nd but since it's a little bumpy at track out there, I'll probably be smoking them pretty bad. In third I can pull pretty well but don't have the huge traction issues.

See you Saturday!

Buddy,

I'll be there this weekend in a 1988 930 Turbo. We should plan to attend a DE there sometime in the spring or summer next year.

I know your closer to Gratten so maybe I'll be up to race at the PCA event next year. I'm sure Tim would be up for it!

Take care,
Rick

Rick, I can't wit to watch your video (downloading). What are you using for an LSD? Does it cause any problems with the PSM?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,

I disconnected the PSM (took it out of the car) before I added the LSD, therefore I can't really say. I wouldn't think it would affect PSM.

The part is from Porsche motorsports.

Here is the before, a lap from Sebring, notice the wheelspin out of the slow corners.

Before the LSD

Thanks CarreraGTRacer!

Rick
