got on the car a bit and check engine light popped on?

The DIC said I think "check service workbook" and the check engine light went on. I didn't feel the car react any different and it asked me to click OK so I did and the message and check engine light went off. I was getting on the car after red light just trying to get some boost out of first and second gear when it kicked on.

^ it probably said "drive to workshop" which is the most annoying aspect of the dash error light since it means only hang onto your wallet. if the car is new to you? and you have not done a MAJOR service to establish a baseline for maintenance? then that is where you should begin.

+ 1 on a possible misfire, and if the plugs/coils are of an unknown replacement date? then i would replace them immediately as i would bet you have a cracked coil.

Get the code(s) read. Way too much speculation or guessing without it. There are thousands of codes. Hopefully it is something minor that a plug change would fix, but read the code(s) to make sure.

FWIW, I bought a refurbished Durametric for about 200, you can lock it to 3 vins, same warranty etc, but you have to call them to see if they have any in stock. Totally worth the price!!!

Code shows cylinder 2, 3 and 4 with misfire and possible bad plugs or coils. They think coils so they ordered and taking back on Wednesday to resolve the issue. They said everything else looked perfect. This is a performance shop this time around.

thats retail but about right. its so common esp as they age. plugs and coils i change my plugs every 5k miles. coils are good for twice that generally. maybe longer. but they crack.
it's a 997 part. always good to check places like pelican to make sure the shop is giving you a fair price. they make at least 10% on parts. if not more. again, good luck with em.

Is it a wise thing to change the plugs as well at this time? Again this is an 01 with 11,000 miles. It is still 14 years old.

Ya, I change my plugs frequently...I misread. I thought you said you changed both every 5k.

get a durametric, will save you a lot in Porsche stealer maintenance costs.

I regularly get a P1033 code which is a temp sensor after I thrash the car for a few 60 to 130 mph and I then use the airconditioning.. I just erase the codes and all is fine again, no need to go to a dealer

Should I change all coils just to be safe even if they show OK? I plan on changing all the plugs but should I do all the coils just as maintenance due to age of the car?
