Clutch advice

Hi guys! I'm at 30k miles AT LEAST on my clutch. Bought car at 32k miles and have 62k now. Track and serious driver on our Ozark mountain roads.

GIAC flash by Sambo pushing 1.0 bar. My accumulator is bad (stiff noisy pedal before start up). Clutch tried to barely slip the other day in 5th while racing an R8 Spyder lol.

I'm only gonna stay 550 or so hp. I don't want a LWFW.

What are your thoughts on the clutch kit? Thanks!

that there is something wrong with it. it should last a lot longer than 30k miles and it shouldn't be slipping unless its been abused. did you put it in when you bought the car or is the old clutch and "unknown".

i have approx 525+ rwhp and i just replaced my clutch with a stock oem sachs with a gt2 disc dmfw and it's perfect. the accumulator can stay as it is for quite some time. but usually the slave follows as you know. i think a lot of people over do clutches on these. stock clutch holds great at 500 to the wheels? it's a good clutch.

so a new accumulator is 140 and 1/2 hour to r&r. but you'll need to look at your clutch to see what shape its in, but if it;s slipping? you already know.

so oem w gt2 disc or sachs 2.5 kit for oem feel and reliability my .02.

Stock flywheel and Sachs Stage II clutch (764) and you'll be perfect. Great OEM like pedal feel, but can hold just north of 600 whp.

Thanks guys. The mileage is unknown on current clutch. I may upgrade to billet K16s in future but will still be under 600hp. Thanks again!

here's about the best price you'll find? on the sachs 2.5 kit @ 1599 delivered. http://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo...6tt-997tt.html

though my oem sachs clutch with gt2 disc was barely a g note from sam. but he knows i'm a cheap bastard lol. spend what you need but in case you do ever go nuts adding power, you'll have more headroom with the 2.5 kit over the stock w gt2 disc. not much.. but some.

Another vote for SRE 999.764 and GT2 disc. Keep the DMFW for heat handling and better general street manners.

Holding my A28 setup to 1.1 bar just dandy. Whereas the stock clutch was giving up in second gear with only 30k miles on the odometer.

I have a great setup from Kevin at umw with a lightweight flywheel using factory parts.

There are zero drivability issues with a LWFW if you have a tune that accounts for it. Guys generally have issues like occasional stalling, stumbling, or a rough idle when they swap from a DMFW to a LWFW without an updated tune. My LWFW actually has better drivability than my DMFW used to have.

Totally agree with this. However, I will say that on really aggressive clutch setups (like the ERP triple carbon for example) the lightweight flywheel makes it a nightmare to drive. It becomes way too chattery and difficult to deal with the engagement.

Agreed. I have a friend that has an ERP triple on his 997TT and even with the heavier steel flywheel it is a bit tricky with a very narrow engagement point at the very top of the pedal. I was referring to a traditional Sachs set up using a factory LWFW along with a sprung disc. With the right tuning, those drive just like stock if not better.

The GT2 clutch disc that comes in the Sachs Performance kit from Europe is a special material that holds more then the OEM one..
With my below signature mods and miles and the way I drive,,I have to agree..
