Potential new 996tt owner...
Hey guys,
My good friend and mechanic for the past 10 years has a 996tt that he bought from another race shop in Colorado and I have a few questions before I buy it.
I have been a die hard Audi and VW owner for the last 10 years and do not know as much about these cars as you do.
I drove his car this Friday and then he told me his mods but I have some doubts
-He claims he has GT2 turbos, GT2 intercoolers, full TBE and GT3 clutch with light weight flywheel and a custom tune from New Jersey. He says it makes 750hp to the motor.... Is this anywhere near accurate? I have a 400HP 2013 Golf R right now and my R seems like it would put up a good fight with his Porsche up until about 70MPH. His Porsche clearly pulls hard from 70+ and is a very fast car in the higher speeds. I want to buy his car but do not know if he his being honest about the turbo upgrade. Could a 996TT with GT2 turbos and all supporting mods really make around 750hp to the motor?

simply put? no. i'd question how good a "friend" he is? but one things for sure, he's marginally full of sh*t.
an x50 car w factory k24 turbos and a detuned remap ( again factory ) is good( according to porsche numbers ( to 444 crank ) from a stock k16 turbo'd car which is estimated to be 414 at the crank.
add his super duper new joisey boyz tune and he's got *maybe* another 80 hp. to the crank. deduct at least 15% from crank to wheels. less reduction percentage if running rwd.
he may be your bud but he's still a used car salesman LOL

^LOL.
Agree with above. "GT2 turbos" sounds fancy but in reality they're just K24s. GT2 intercoolers are the same as X50 and only marginally better than base stock ones.
750 crank (600 ish wheel?) Would mean modified K24 turbos or TiAL alphas, fuel mods, good ICs, free flowing exhaust and a solid tune tying it all together. IMHO.

Sorry guys,
My post might have come off different than I wanted. What I meant to say is my little awd VW at 28 psi is a quick little car. However this Porsche I drove didn't seem like it had anything over maybe 500hp to the motor. It is a faster car no doubt, I just have huge concerns that he is lying to me about the upgraded turbos as I am not as familiar with the turbos themselves in these cars.
*my friend/mechanic bought this car from a race shop In Denver with a "mod list" but since it has sat in his garage. He has driven maybe 10 times in the last year and I don't think he knows much about the car

Why don't you just take it to a performance shop who knows P-cars and let them inspect it to verify the mods?
Ps. Maybe they can do a comp. test, leak down, etc. while they're in there as well.

This is what I would do also. Did it come with any paper work at all when he bought the car?

Or probably has some 1 bar tune and that's it. Im guessing 480rwhp. If it has 18gs with a 5 bar then add another 40 whp. That's it.
