Help with Race Car - Fuel System
#17
OK, I got the car to the mechanic today and here are the error codes I'm now getting.
Last week The O2 sensor error was just on Bank 1, now it's on all. Added to this the engine is stalling/dying when stopping and down changing to lower gear. My mechanic is going to fit a spare throttle body to fault check this.
Attached is the dyno run result after the tune but with the fuel system setup that was missing an in tank pump. Everyone here believes that the fuel setup now should be doing the job. But can't do anything to check AFR until we find and sort the reason for the error codes.

oh stop whining. no one cares to attack you , steve simply pointed out that fuel filter would make a mess and that tank is available seprately and that you cna just go and buy it. big deal. Binh (before he opened Powerhaus) and I came up with that design together and ran it on both of our 996TTs, tested on mine then his. it was ok and it worked for a bit but after 900whp it was no good which is why your car never made a 1000whp and never will like you false advertised in the classifieds . Setup Steve is using will work better.

Obviously the tune is lean very lean.I would first check that the o2 sensors are in the correct position.By this i mean the o2 that goes before the cat is actually before the cat and vice versa. If they are correct i think you are looking at 4 new 02 sensors for a start. Then you need someone to tune the car correctly or flash it back to stock to see where you are.And with the power the car is making why remove the stock fuel system as its more than capable for the power your making?

If you are dynoing the engine with suspected malfunctioning O2 sensors or questionable fuel delivery issues my advice is to stop that until you get sensors and fuel system sorted.
Let's see what the error codes mean:
P0130 - oxygen sensor ahead of TWC (three-way converter) bank 1 signal implausible.
P0150 - oxygen sensor ahead of TWC (three-way converter) bank 2 signal implausible.
P0141 - oxygen sensor heating after TWC bank 1 open circuit.
P0156 - oxygen sensor after TWC bank 2 signal implausible.
Too much to type in so I have attached some JPG's that contain text of tests. If you click on them they get bigger but let me know if they are not and I can email the JPG's to you via private email.

Pump set-up when I bought the car. Pump 1 blanked off, pump 2 connected to a T-line pick-up into the tank - no pump in tank.
I have added a carter diaphragm pump feeding a surge tank and mounted the Bosch pumps below that, so they are not lifting at all.
I also replaced the two Bosch pumps as I was not confident that they weren't damaged; you could here the pump cavitating as it was trying to suck fuel out of the tank. Note, I only run one of these pumps, I have a main and a spare.

That's where we are up to now. My mechanic is talking to the tuner re the issues. Unfortunately I'm in Perth on the west coast and there's no tuners here (small country) and the tuner is in Melbourne 4,000 km away.

I would run a gauge inside the car connected to the the fuel line( near the filter in back there is a fitting where you plug a fuel gauge... ) check at idle and on boost whats the pressure... make sure you actually getting the right pressure... is it stock 3.8 bar?

Is it worthwhile installing an electric fuel pressure gauge as a permanent fit.? That had been recommended to me by a club member here in WA.
Last edited by BR996tt; 11-06-2014 at 04:27 PM. Reason: Added pressure to guage

I suggest you do what I told you in the email before it blows up on you...

I have to check this. But it seems like it is. As you can see in the photos I fitted a fuel guage just fwd of the filter and it is sitting at 55psi on idle, which is roughly the stock 3.8 bar if my maths correct.

Veryry that it works when on boost. If it stays same or drops its not right. It should raise one psi for evry psi of boost
#29
Just to clarify, I'm not driving the car now. Once we identified the problem of it running lean we have been working on fixing it.

+1 Mark is correct it should be 1:1 when under boost
