Houston Area 996TT Rebuilt

Best of luck to the OP!
But for the record, do you know how many cars I have said that I would "buy and drive until the wheels fall off"? Countless . . . Maybe I am different
But I am certain . . . this time . . . I am keeping this 996 forever! HaHa, KH

Lots of people say they're gonna keep for ever the car they're looking to buy. I'm one of them, and luckily enough for me, I've never had one give me a reason to unload it. Which isn't to say that I still have every car I've ever owned, but rather that I've sold them on MY terms.
I attribute that "luck" to lots of diligence and not making bad decisions (which I reserve for other aspects of my life, evidently). And part of not making a bad car buying decision is avoiding situations where there are more likely to be problems than not. As eager as I've been about purchasing whatever car I was looking at, it has served me well to remember the "greater fool" theory and not be that guy.
So buying a high-performing car with tight tolerances and lots of electronics (albeit less than later models) that has been totaled is something I personally wouldn't do - UNLESS I were either prepared to spend significant money on remedying problems not evident during a PPI that would surface over time as a result of the accident, or looking to gut the car and make it as close to an analog race car as possible.
Bottom line, the seller is going to be very relieved when he sells it, all the more so if goes to someone purchasing on emotion. Good luck OP.

Well to update everyone I decided NOT to purchase the car after reading through the replies and the fact that it didn't "appear" to be a hard hit yet the car was a total loss. The seller says there was no airbag deployment but had no idea what I meant by seatbelt pre-tensioners and the more I thought about it the more I felt it would be best to either pay for a well kept clean title 996TT or wait a while. I am extremely OCD about my vehicles and I had a feeling this car would have drove me crazy.
Thanks again on all who replied, your feedback was extremely valuable!

Congrats on your decision. OCD and previously salvaged/rebuilt titles tend not to mix. Find a fellow OCD Porsche brother out there, I PROMISE you they exists . . . You will find your car-- KH

That is freaking, . . . I regretfully can relate . . . which is probably why I find that comment so funny-- KH

Anyone can buy a car with a salvage title. But how the car proves to be over the long haul is what's important. Even if one is never going to sell the car or trade it in he's still going to have to live with the car a very long time.
Let's wait and see how your brother in law makes out with his 2011 S5 with a salvage title.

If you are OCD about your vehicles, I know you made the right choice.
Remember there's always another car.
You need to keep looking until you find the right car for you.
