Buy new sedan or used?

Buy new sedan or used?
Looking to get a sedan for the wife.
Everyone says get a 1-2 year old car and save a bundle.
Is it just me or doesn't it seem that nice sedans depreciate 10k/year the first 5 years anyway?
Look at an '04 XRJ. They sell for 20K under MSRP.
'04 or '05 A8. Again, 10K/year under MSRP.
Anyone think may as well just buy new since at least you have the warranty during the depreciation curve?
Just wondering what others thought. Thinking new '07 S class or LS460.
Thanks for any opinions.

A lot depends on your need (her needs) and driving preferences.
We've had an S500 for 5 years, and we're expecing an '07 early next spring. Wife loves the ride of the S. We drove a lot of other vehicles (no Bimmers yet, but maybe) and she keeps coming back to Benz. Had 'em since late 80's (560 SL).
If you are worried about depreciation, you're on the wrong board.
A highline vehicle like an S500 is going to drop 10k first year easily, and probably 10k per year the first 3.
The LS did not grab her...too floaty. GS was too tight (go figure). I thought we should just wait 3 more years for the Porsche Panamera. Oooooh yeah.
CLS was too much like a cacoon for her.

Wasn't born into bucks so now they're here still fret stupidly.
Thought a 993tt would be a wise choice but see I'm gonna lose 10K a year on that too putting 12K miles a year on it and having just taken a ride w/ new souped up turbos and other mods.
Unless there's no blatantly bad choices (MB CL?) will probably just pick one on basic appeal and be done with it.

If she is happy with a new car and you guys are willing to spend the money for it, then go with new. To me, I usually want something that I can't really justify spending full price for, so I opt for a mint used one.
Jag's resale drop like a tank so it makes good sense. Others like Audi, MB also drop but not as much. Lexus holds its value well until warranty expires which usually means 60k+ mi which is not worth it for me.

I guess what I'm wondering is:
Why buy a used car when it is still going to end up selling for 30K less than what you paid for it after 3 years of ownership.
At least the new one at has a longer warranty?

Typically, CPO cars bought at the dealer have longer warranties than new. Might be worth looking into and cars of that nature are usually not beaten on. Might be worth it to save a couple of bucks and buy a low mileage used one.

I've been looking into getting a luxury sedan and the one I have my eye on is the 2003 S55 or S600 Benz. These cars are comfortable, and able to keep up with a 996 TT. They are a little plain looking but a new set of rims can help fix that. They are in the 70k range...not bad considering they are almost 120k new. If you wait a year, it's going to drop more since the new model is coming out.
