Its interesting that whenever 996TT exhaust options are discussed, the focus is generally the sound of the different exhaust systems, as opposed to power gains, volume of air flow, impact on turbo spooling, weight savings, or any other performance criteria. IMHO, exhausts are, first and foremost, a performance component, and a distant second, a cosmetic/acoustic enhancement. Often, the performance gains are inversely related to the acoustic characteristics (meaning HP gains generally require volume increases). Any thorough discussion of exhaust options should include reference to, and comparison of, performance gains.

In the end, I suspect most aim to achieve both acoustic and performance improvements with their after-market exhausts. However, the fact remains that most discussions on the subject are focused on sound quality rather than performance.

How do these compare to a Tubi exaust (I have one on my Ferrari 355 and the sound is just right).

About to upgrade the twin turbo and need feedback on exaust.

i believe the TUBI has a nice sound, but has actually been proven to lose hp on a tt

Tubi, by comparison isnt all that. Construction is so so, I think they are overrated. I am partial to a couple of brands and will leave it at that. Steven Kaspar has done research on this subject, it would be worth calling him on.

The Imagine Auto exhaust comparison can be found here.

There are two different versions of the Tubi exhaust for the 996TT. The initial version was a single piece unit, the new model is two pieces. I've read a few references to this "proven power loss", but I've never seen the proof. Does anyone have a dyno chart?

Question Europipe

Is there anyone who know which Europipe system they are testing in the Imagine Auto exhaust comparison...is it Stage 2 Loud or Quiet??

The soundlevels from that system are very high...almost as high as Fabspeed SuperSport. Can that really be tru?

when choosing exhaust,besides the accoustics n performance gain one should also consider the manufacturer n their service support.In this instance i would highly recommend AWE(mike)with their impressive support even though i did not purchase it from them.

What Craig wrote is so true.
I too went for the sound, but after the install of my Fabspeed Sport I watched as my boost went from 0.9 at full throttle to 1.0 bar in the second gear.
That extra .01 bar made me feel the little bit of extra power from the exhaust and made me happier then the sound which I love. However I cannot wait to get my straight pipes back on. To me that is what the engine should sound like.

Actually, the same could be said for wheels. Too much jewlery down there and not enough weight savings/strength/performance?

The sound readings on the Europipe appear to be wrong. The readings show it's quiter than stock inside the car (it's not) and that it's much louder than the Fabspeed super sport outside the car.

what about the GHL exhaust for the 996tt? any feedback? the most important things i'm looking for in an exhaust are in order:

1. NO or minimal resonance
2. HP gains
3. Cost
4. Throaty or guttural sound but not obnoxiously, wake up the neighborhood every time i come home, loud

thanks for any guidance...

In the comparison test, the torque readings on the GHL at 6500 and 7000 rpm are exaggerated. They accidentally used the HP figures in the torque column. This makes the average torque on the GHL look artifically high also.
