Are the Miltek systems really of any use?

Aren't they 2.5" diameter?
I'd heard people were recommending 3"

Looking for a sport exhaust for my 996 tt

Actually there is a first generation Fabspeed maxflo exhaust on my 2001 996tt and it drone a lot in the cabin. It is awful in the car, so awful that I don’t use the car when I have to embark other persons.

So I'm looking for something else that will have a nice deep sporty sound outside and no droning inside the cabin. I don't want to pay $4000 for it of course.

I've search in the forums and found a lot of info but sometime too many info is similar to no info at all.

Any suggestions!

Here are few pictures of my 2001 996tt. I'm also looking to get rid of the fugly front bumperettes...

HI,Inner piping is 2.75'' and 3'' which is bigger then most, muffler exit tail pipe is 2.5 so it will fit the factory tips....X-pipes to conventional mufflers is two different things and personal preferance...Lots of tuners in the past made big HP on these systems which were on the quiet side compared to others for the power they made......

The factory exhaust has 60mm ( 2 3/8 inch ) exit tail pipes and 60mm ( 2 3/8 inch ) tips.

A sport exhaust with inner piping of 3" or 4" or whatever diameter and 60mm ( 2 3/8 inch) exit pipes and tips is still a 60mm exhaust. The 60mm remains the bottleneck.

HI,Thanks,,You are right Steff,,,I will open that tail end of the pipe to match the 2.5 size.... But compared to what I came from,Cargraphics,CG had 2.375 inner piping and a 2.125 exit size into a sharp 90 degree bend to the tip size...I gained .15 bars with my K24/18gs going to Milltek, they both are 100 cell cats systems....Dont get me wrong ,your system is top notch,,,I wish I could have found a used one....But I am happy with the improvement with the Milltek,,,,Even though Millteks[UK] customer service sucks and the factory tips are not in a good location......

Also,a few big tuners used and 1 still does this system on their 700HP cars and they assured me that for that short of a distance coming out of the muffler that it did not make that big of a restriction/bottle neck to be concerned with??As they say,,proof is in the pudding

I have actually seen full rae cars with straight pipes - and the tips actually reduced/narrowed slightly

I'm trying to find the pictures and details for it, but can't remember where I put the info

I currently have the 3" Speedtech cross flow system on my 996TT. It has great sound but some drone at 2500RPM. I installed a few layers Second Skin Damplifier 20 SQFT behind the rear seats. It eliminated 95% of the annoying drone. The box was enough to do the rear section 2X

I'll be trying some Second Skin Luxury Liner 9SQFT next to see if I can get ride of the rest of the noise.

HI,Sometimes pipe builders in other motorsports areas, do slightly reduce the tip OD for improved velocity which is sometimes better then volume for making power

HI,Maybe you should have tryed his 2.5 exhaust tip set-up instead of the 3'' one to help the drone.... Also relating to my above post,,,,John D. said going from a 3'' tip to a 2.5'' tip did not reduce power...He Dynoed that ...

First drive today with my Milltek 200 cell system.
Excellent !!!
No drone, great sounds. Thrilled and satisfied with my choice.
I've had droning exhausts like my old Borla on my C5, and a Magnaflow system on my S2000. Both of those systems I sold, and I made darn sure that I'd do a little more research on this.
I narrowed it down to:
Milltek,
Speedtech,
Marksi,
Europipe.
Stratmosphere was real local, and made me a super smoking deal.
It sat in the box for many months, and I just found the time to get it squared away.
Again, relieved that my exhaust is perfect, but I think anything on my short list would have made me happy.
JB

I am very happy I went with the 3". The drone is very minimal and really only in a 200 rpm band. Any quieter and I wouldn't have been happy. I also checked with Tony at EPL and he stated the 3" dynos a fairly signicant increase in Torque over the 2.5".
