Inlet Pipe Removal

Hey guys, going crazy here trying to pull my inlet pipes out with the engine still in. I cut the pipe as high up as I could and top or bottom removal both seem close but not quite there. I believe it has to come out the top but could really use some pointers here, thanks all.

If you are good you only need to drop the Trans to do the inlets (removal/install new), but most people need to drop the motor.....

If you are doing so with both in place, I don't think it can be done.

I pulled mine off with trans out.

I didn't really have a sawzall so I found something out.

Small hit with the angle grinder just enough to make a hole. Then put my crowbar in, pry and pop. It broke into some clean pieces. After that I pulled it out the top.

My motor mounts were undone and dropped the motor about 3 or 4 inches too.

inlet has to be broken in half, then from underneath reach as high as possible and cut with a sazall. drop the motor as far as you can and lower the trans. remove the fuel filter and you have just enough room to snake it out.

Thanks guys I figured from the top. I have my tranny dropped as I'm also doing clutch, turbos, injectors and pump. I have it so close but that fuel filter mount that's part of the coolant reservoir is really in the way. I almost want to cut it out. I'll try again tomorrow when I get some time, cheers!

i didn't have to but you can remove the reservoir and get even more room. might try turning the hacked up piece so the narrow side is closest to the reservoir

Its hard. A few tears might have been cried but in the end I was able to do it with the motor and tranny in place!

If you pulled the trans to do a clutch I cannot see why you did not just drop the whole lot out, it makes everything so much easier, if you take into account the time you have already spent trying to get the inlet out its a no brainer.

its not the trans thats in the way. its the small space between the back of the engine and the firewall. with the bend of the plenum you can't clear the engine enough to get it out.

I didn't want to deal with the coolant mess, I've definitely thought twice about my decision though.

I meant drop motor and trans, I do this every time now as it may take slightly longer but the heartache is far less !!!!

thats complete overkill if your just doing inlets. if you have to drop the motor then thats when most do it. this was the first mod i did and was determined to do it with the engine in. i succeeded but ultimately wasn't worth the hassle. should have just went mafless ripped it all out and use filter in the fender wells. much less painful in the end
