Also adding more rubber adds to possible movement etc.

Yeah, I wasn't impressed with having to fix it myself. I did it because I needed to confirm the source of the noise was what I thought it was. Now that I've confirmed the problem was the design of the camber plate not having a wide enough base to hold the spring in a fixed position, I'm not really happy. I'm not sure what I will do next...

The problem with the Tarett is that there is no rubber between the camber plate and the spring. OEM has rubber.

Edit: Spring movement has absolutely no effect on handling.

agree, and have not bothered to try and hassle ira at tarett over it. i figure that's not my place and i have no expertise, so obviously i thought there was something wrong with "me"!? but how many ways can the damn thing install? it either "fits' or it doesn't.

this is a head scratcher. i'm just fortunate to be dealing with about as reputable and stand up folks a guy like me could ever hope to befriend when it comes to "parts" and advice.

otherwise i'd have been out the 500 bucks for the tarett plates and another 500 for the oem's! then i'd REALLY be pissed. as it is? i'll just live with a bit more out of the box camber lol and pick another battle..for another day

I just sent Tarett a note about the problem. I'll post what they reply.

thats would be instructive. was odd because my buddy actually discussed this briefly with them, and no one really offered that there might be some design issue at all (?!). again, i messed with em four times! i'm done lol

...and just noticed 996twins car thread, and he seems to have them installed in his car..wonder if he sees this.. if he could add anything...it's very very strange.

Four times is about right... That's when I figured there was nothing wrong with the camber plates or the shocks and started looking for answers.

If you have coilovers, this would not be an issue. It is only a problem for us because we are trying to use the OEM springs which need an anchor at the top to hold the spring steady. The anchor isn't there on the Tarett.

exactly!! but we mentioned springs. i'm on h&r sport. this shouldn't be an issue, but perhaps they are in fact a coil over only compatible part. would sure explain all we've just gone thru.. but why wouldn't someone just say that! sheesh.

Yeah - I reviewed the description very carefully on Pelican before I purchased. The description said it was an upgrade for OEM mounts. It would take very little to modify their design to stop spring movement if so equipped. Four bumps or an inner ring to hold the spring.

Agree it will probably be fine and see your point about the spring/coilover usage difference. I would not like having rubber added to one side and not other etc and would be worrying about it needlessly I'm sure.

Yes, I feel like it may be unbalanced, but the rubber does nothing more than stabilize the spring. It is only 3/16th of an inch think and has no effect on ride height. If the driver's side is stable, I don't really want to add anything unnecessarily. I will revisit when I get the response from Tarett.

i'm subscribed, thats for sure.. but after all that i just "endured", and given i have zero desire for coil overs.. i think i'm gonna stay with a silent and compliant front end as it is. man, this has been frustrating. three weeks of this ****. but i really was hoping for camber plates front, TS toe links rear w the gt3 bar. oh well. least the TS links kinda just went right in ! lol. curious to hear what tarett actually says. thx for the info.

add: geez, OP sorry for the thread invasion!

First reply from Ira...

Hello Karl,
The parts are a direct replacement, and there should not be any noise. I'm sure we can figure it out. The spring should be sitting on the OEM rubber pad, and there is a thrust bushing that goes between the pad and the camber plate. Everything gets used except for the OEM mount and the two large washers that sit on each side of the rubber OEM mount. If you can send some pictures of the parts installed, I'd be happy to take a look.

Thanks,
Ira

Hi Ira,

OEM Rubber Pad??? If you look at the picture of the OEM mount, the only rubber is in the center where the rod from the shock goes through. (I highlighted where the spring would go.)The metal is formed to tightly hold the OEM bearing and spring. The only part I did not reuse is the part in the picture and the bearings which I replaced with Porsche parts.

The Tarett part did not come with any instructions, but I figured - you pull the old one out and put the new one in. That's all I did.

Hi Karl,
The attached picture shows how the OEM spring seat and thrust bearing sits on my camber plates. Do you have those parts in place or is the spring up against the camber plate? Just like with the OEM mounts, there will be some movement between the thrust bearing and the camber plate, but it will not move once everything is loaded up. Also, the OEM thrust bearing needs to be in good condition and rotate freely.

Regards,
Ira

-------------- My Reply -----------------
Hi Ira,

Yes, the spring has the rubber on top with the bearing above that. The bearing is firmly attached to the sprint using the rubber mount. The problem is that the camber plate does not firmly hold the bearing in place - it is free to move around. When it does, it makes a clunk. From your picture, it is clear there is considerable play around the camber plate.

Tarett is working on a solution for people with OEM springs. I'll post when I get anything solid.
