996 Turbo Clutch Hydraulic Pressure Not Stable
Hi Everyone!
First, I have search the internet and this site to death. No help.
I purchased a 2002 Turbo K18 car last week. Within 50 miles, the clutch pedal acted odd. Specifically, the initial press was normal, but within 1-2 seconds, the pedal's pressure significantly increased. If you immediately hit the clutch, the pressure is high. Wait 3-4 seconds and it will again start light and increase.
There is overflow from the front bottle.
The pressure is always high with the car off.
The previous owner changed the clutch master and slave cylinders 3 months ago at Porsche Albuquerque. I just replaced the accumulator on a hunch and it did nothing.
I'm officially at a loss. Any help is appreciated.

I'm obviously skeptical of a new part breaking, and I haven't heard of a broken slave varying pressure. And my catch is that I have access to a shop that's doing my labor for free... If I send it to the local dealer and it's not the slave cylinder, I'll have a large bill.
I just don't want to chuck parts at it. But maybe that's the only solution.

Thanks for the input. It's 600 miles away, but I do have an invoice for it. (800 miles ago)

at least to me.

It sounds like a bad accumulator. The OP said he replaced master & slave not accumulator. The test for a bad accumulator is to pump with the engine off. If the pedal get hard before 35 pumps , the accumulator is bad. 2 or 3 pumps - definitely bad.

He also said he replaced the accumulator and it "did nothing".

OOOps - missed that. RTFQ. New accumulator also bad or problem with hydraulics from PS pump causing inconsistent pressure.
I point to this because my car had that exact issue from the day I bought it. It took 4 years, but I finally did the GT2 conversion (tranny was out anyway) and all is fixed and working perfectly.

every time i read of the slave delete ( and i KNOW its the *proper* thing to do ! ) i always regret being on my third accumulator lol, and second slave. ( geez, that doesnt read right )
the gt2 slave delete sure FEELS right...and really is. this from a guy with a "still" stock setup ha. barely touch the clutch anyway.. but

Thanks everyone for your input.
I took the vehicle to Porsche assuming they would warranty the slave cylinder. Instead, they claim the pressure tank / regulator is bad.
They want to do the tank, but I think I'm going to bring the car back and try the regulator. I'll update the thread with the results, and read everyone's good advice.

forgive me, but the regulator? do you know what that is relative to the clutch? this may be my dumb question of the day. curious if you could share what they claim is the cause of the inconsistent clutch action. just never heard this one before...
