GT2 Owners - Suspension?

I am a new owner of a 2003 GT2 with 3500 miles. I have owned many Porsches in the past, but this is my first GT2. I have stock suspension with 18" BBS Aluminum Racing wheels and new PS2's.

My first impression of the suspension is not very good. It feels softly sprung and over damped. Around town it is fine, but on the CA freeways and at higher speeds it does not feel solidly planted and bobs around, bottoms out and takes great care to keep on line when dips or bumpbs are involved at speed.

I am going to have a full alignment done and have it checked out, but I wondered if other owners felt the same way and how they cured it. I think the spring rates are just too low......

Thanks for your feedback!

GT2's springs are not progressive rate springs. I believe it's the opposite of what you think, the GT2 is much more highly sprung and dampened. It takes much more G's to get the springs to set the suspension under load.

With stiffer spring rates you will find smoother the better, once you start to have undulations, uneven road cambers and rough surface the suspension will become unsettled.

It's a GT2.

I wish I understood springs & suspension dynamics better.
So Oak, you're saying that what grussell is feeling is a car that's unsettled.... because of the stiff springs and dampening are feeding him much of the CA highway at higher speed?

How is that a good thing (in the design of a car like that)?.....yep I understand the GT2 is intended to be a bit rough around the edges........but going very fast & staying in control (on less than absolutely perfect road) had to be in the cards on the GT2 was on the drawing table?

It definately wasn´t designed as a commuter car and even less a SoCal commuter car . The GT2 is designed for the track and good roads. The Turbo might better suit your needs .

grussell,

the car is extremely alignment sensitive. where are you having the alignment done?

report back to us after you have it done, i believe you will not even believe it is the same car. when my gt2 or 3 is out of alignment it feels very unsettled and floaty as well...

Hamann is exactly right. The alignment will do wonders to the way the car feels.

grussell, I can assure you are in great hands. Tom will definitely make that car feel as it should. He does my alignments on all of my cars, my friends' cars, and even my parents' cars.

While you are there, you can see my black GT2 parked in their showroom, although by that time, it may be the GT3 in there...

Took the GT2 to Arling at Lucent for Tom to go over the suspension. He aligned it and set the toe and camber correctly and what a difference! He also increased the tire pressure to 40 rear and 36 front. I must say the adjustments and the increased pressure made a huge difference. It turns in much quicker, feels more planted and tracks much better. These guy know what they are doing and provide excellent service to boot!

A big thanks to Arling and Tom at Lucent!!!!

Also, saw TurboRon at Lucent, nice to meet you and beautiful Lapis Blue Turbo. Nice Color!

I had a GT 2 and sold it because it was floaty and unstable, I was very disappointed.

Uhhh... did you have Kent at Premier Sportscar Service set it up? He is local to LV, and I'd be really surprised if you thought it was floaty and unstable after having it properly configured by him and/or his crew.

These cars are super sensitive to alignment changes.

I didnt know where to take it, i had it for about 10 months and drove it 2000miles. i lost almost 60K on that car by far the biggest hit I have ever taken on a car, I didnt lose that much $$$ on my Azure.

I wish now I had it back, funny how that works.
